Need Help with Shift Knob

I just installed my V1 remote display in my ash tray. Looks great,.... as long as the shift knob is not in 3rd or 5th gear! (Which is when I want to use it (freeway speeds))

Of course I find this out after I finished. Oh well.

Here is my question: I currently have the original style Dali shift knob and wondered if:

a. The mini-me knob sits lower
b. The Grupe-M knob sits lower
c. Can I just cut off the top 1/2" off the top where the threads are and lower the shifter that way? I should still have about 1" of threads left.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Science Of Speed has the NSX-R ball type shifter knobs. Really low, really cool and easy install. Get the shift boot too!

i have the same shifter and boot and i love it!, i went from the factory unit to this one and it makes shifting much more enjoyable and the fit is great too.

This has the combination of
1) SOS satin knob, which by itself will shorten the throw (it threads on deeper into the knob). http://www.scienceofspeed.com/produ...ts/NSX/ScienceofSpeed/shift_knobs/default.asp
I actually prefer that this one uses the stock boot, although you still have the option to change it if that is your preference.

2) Also there is about 1" removed from the bottom section of the stick - it was cut & re-welded. You can actually buy this as a core exchange part from Dail racing if you can't find a local welder to do it. http://www.daliracing.com/v666-5/catalog/index_browse_part.cfm?focus=541

Note: if you do it yourself, be sure to remove a section from the bottom (fatter) section, as if you remove from the top, it will make the stick too "fat" to be able to thread on the knob properly.

Thanks all, I appreciate the help.

D'Ecosse,

There is a switch behind the shift knob on you car. What is it for. The previous owner had a clifford alarm put on the car and there is a switch on mine similar to yours. I was hoping you could tell me what it does. I have had the car 4 bloddy years and I still don't know what it does :-)

Thanks again all!

Jeff

Jeff, nothing to do with the alarm I'm afraid - previous owner installed purple neon strips (!!!) under the dash & that is the switch & strobe speed adjust pot (yeah ...really!) It's there, so I just left it.
If you think the switch has something to do with the alarm, it is maybe the valet switch?
Check on Directed's web site for the various wiring diagrams etc.
http://www.directed.com/coms.asp you might be able to figure out something from there.

Thanks D'Ecosse for your help, I will definately look that up.

Thanks again.

Seriously, it's aftermarket, so it could be just about anything...
