Would really appreciate any help I can get in figuring out how to remove the EGR properly so I can clean it. I'm having a hard time getting into the space and am not sure if I should be removing the two bolts that hold it in, or if I'm supposed to somehow undo the clasps that grip the top part to it. There are a bunch of hoses in the way also and uncertain if those can be unplugged without causing problems. The last thing I need is cause an unintended leak of some sort. So... somebody please give me some guidance! Thanks.

Nobody knows how to get the EGR off? I met Ramon at Niguel today and then went and got a universal joint to try and get a socket in there, but still having no luck. Seems like it would be easier if the top part of the EGR came off first. The overhang is really causing problems getting tools in there. :frown:

Stubby combo wrench - I have done it recently without too much issue.

You do not have to remove clasps on the top.

You can try using crowfoot wrenches. I forgot if I used these or if I just used a socket. I think I've done it booth ways.

If you use a short socket, put the socket on the nut first before you attach it to the extension bar on your ratchet. You will not be able to seat the extension bar fully into the socket, but you can get enough to give you leverage. Try both 1/4 sockets and 3/8 sockets.

You might want to get new gaskets while you have the egr off. There will be two gaskets that you will need. I have done it where the gaskets came off together with the EGR. Other times the gasket tore apart when removed.

Thanks for the ideas. I've ordered a set of stubby wrenches to see if that'll work. Will cross my fingers once they come in. If that doesn't work I guess I'll try the crowfoot ones and such.
