Hi guys,

My car has been making alot of clunking noise from the Rear Driver side. It has been diagnosed and might be a CV joint problem or the ENTIRE axle. I brought my car to AUTOWAVE in Orange County for the repair and they quoted me $985 for parts and labor for the axle Replacement. THATS A WHOLE LOT!!!! THen i spoke to my friend and he told me there shouldn't be a problem with the axles as they should be pretty strong for the NSX. He told me it might be a CV joint problem. I've always thought it was just a wheel bearing going bad.

My question is, how much does it usually cost to replace the Rear Driver Side CV Joint? entire Axle? Wheel bearing?

Thanks in advance guys!!!

This is a pretty well-covered topic. Try doing a search on this site (one of the red buttons near the upper right side of the browser window). I found many good threads on just this topic by typing "clunking" in the search field.

Good luck!

project13nsx,

The pricing may seem high, but here are roughly LIST prices for the parts:

Complete Axle = $850
Inner Joint + Boot = $400
Outer Joint + Boot = $400

So, with a discount and a few hours labor, it does not seem all that out of whack to me. My understanding is Autowave is an excellent, reliable shop. You get what you pay for:).

I had both CV boots done for $150 a side. I bought the boots myself from goodson. $19 each I think.

Neillo Acura in Sacramento Ca will provide you with a 30% parts discount with your NSXCA membership. They recently quoted me $255.00 plus shipping for an outer joint for my '92.
Maybe your shop would be willing to install it for you.
You just have to keep in mind that they will not guarantee the part if it were to fail.
If your not a NSXCA member..... JOIN you'll save big $$$$$ for this type of stuff.

Your friend is not exactly correct. Yes, the axles are pretty strong, but broken axles are not unheard of - particularly if the axle nut starts to back out. Read this topic for more information.

the inner joints make noises some times but i could put thicker grease in them and they will get less noise if any. could try that if there not broken before you spend 800 big ones let me know what happens
