Need help on keyless entry remote

I just got a 1996 NSX-T. The previous owner said he lost the keyless entry remote and all I need to do is go to an Acura dealer and give them the VIN# and they should be able to order the remote for about $70 each. But when I went to the dealer, they said they'll have to get under the glove compartment to check if the "brain" is installed. If not, it'll cost me $750 for the brain and the remote. But when I called Acura customer care, they said the dealer can order the remote with the VIN, since all 1996 and later came with brain pre-installed, but the dealer have to order it for me. Can anyone help me on this? Do you know who's right? How can I get a remote that'll work for my car without the dealer charging me an arm & leg? Thank you in advance.

I have the same problem. In an earlier post, I saw the name of a guy at an Acura dealer on the west coast. All you do need is the VIN BUT the keyless remotes are backordered 4-5 months. That's what I was told anyway.

Good luck

Hello McAttack:

Thank you for your reply. Do you know where the earlier post is? Maybe I can contact the Acura dealer on the post you're talking about and get the remote from him. The dealer I went to obviously try to rip me off. But I can't believe the remotes are backordered so long. I guess I'll just have to wait. Thanks in advance.

I just installed a new "Brain" in my car. I order the whole kit through Acura with two remotes . The cost was around 200 dollars. My car is a 92 I do not know if this makes a difference.

The keyless entry system is a dealer installed option and is made by Kenwood. By checking the number on the "brain" or remotes, a new remote can be ordered pre programmed for about $80-$90. I did this about a 2 months ago with my '97.

I'm pretty sure you want to call Eric at Niello Acura in CA. (Check Spelling) He told me 4-5 months period.

Good luck
