It all depends on manufacturer. Some pads have serials that identify the run and it could well be traced back to the point of sale. However, it would be a long up-hill battle and is likely not worth the investment. I successfully did it once with a brick that dropped off a truck in front of me (unsecured load) and got them to pay up for damages on a brand new car.
