Gentlemen,
Have I got a proposition for you! If you don't already know, I have a 2000 NSX Yellow/Black 4000 miles and it is in the wrapper shape. What I would like to do is swap only the my black center sections of the seats with YOUR yellow ones(including headrests. So, your car would end up having black inserts with yellow around the outside and mine would have yellow inserts with black around the outside. I checked dealer prices and it would run 1500 JUST for the yellow leather. All I want to do is remove the center sections(with the cushions intact on both mine and yours) and swap them with you. If I buy the leather, then I need to have the leather removed from the cushion and then sell my black leather inserts.
This is a very simple task, you only have to pull on the lower cushion and clips like the door panels have will come off and then pull forward. The back comes out after that with similar clips. Viola! That's all there is to it. Contact me for questions. Crazy? The only pic I could find to describe the look is MYNSX's interior shot

Have you checked out an auto-upholsterer John, or are you set on keeping Honda equipment (even if different color)?
I was considering something similar, would like perforated leather - the color switch is an interesting consideration too, with the door panel "crushed" inserts to match.

i have a yellow/yellow '02 but i wouldn't be interested in swapping seat centers, i like the all yellow seats too much.

No, haven't spoke with one yet. I wanted to keep the perforated leather(is that available aftermarket?). I figured this would be an easy way for everyone. Yes, I also would want to change the door inserts. This is the look I am after

Don't see why you couldn't get the perforated material available from an upholsterer - I am in no doubt it would be considerably cheaper than getting the actual material from Honda.

Found this example of a perforated leather in yellow from http://www.auto-interior.com/
- maybe they could send a swatch? These guys make pre-fab covers, but also do custom work - check around the site a little.
I am interested in that same look, considering red inserts in mine of course.
I was curious - once you remove the cushions are they interchangable from driver to passenger side?

Check these Cobra Seats out - the Sidewinder link doesn't specifically show the yellow black, but it is in the header shown in this gif.

Again, not OEM, but might be the look you're going for

Why is MYNSX idle at 3000 RPMS?

LOL!!! It's stuck actually. The white gauges have a bump in the surface and stick (especially when it's hot out)iT WAS 115 THAT DAY!!

I did my interior w/ dyed perferated yellow and custom stitching all done in two-3 days (emergency service rates payed) 3k for all the above. The quality of the work is impecable .I recommend them highly THE TOP SHOP in Pheonix AZ "Terry" is the owner available thru referal only.

Good Luck!!

I would be willing to compensate someone who is willing to trade with me. Private me if you would like to talk figures, and I'll definitely make it worth your while. Who knows, this may work this time.
Thanks,
John Richards

John - explain this a litle futher if you could - which direction do you pull? I tried but not sure if pulling right direction (up or out?) Are the clips prone to break if you pull it wrong way?

Looking at the microfiche at the dealer, the cushions had clips facing downwards, so pulling up should release them. They are 60cents each, so no worries if one breaks, however, I have yet to take mine off.......Still waiting a swap to come thru.

I had originally looked in the service manual on-line here on Prime & didn't see the detail; however in my hard copy manual it does have detail instructions. (It appears not all the pages were scanned into the on-line edition)
It suggests you close the tabs on the clips from the underside to allow them yo pop through the holes in the frame. The rear is essentially the same but a little more complex.
I may have a source to have these re-covered up here in Bay area - I have a friend who has a friend that does upholstery & I saw a Corvette that had been done. If I pursue this I will keep you posted in case your primary plan doesn't materialize (biggest drawback I see is that yellow upholstered cars already probably rare, then those willing to trade a small % of those - good luck though, definitely a good idea if you can find that one person on the same page)
I'm sure nsxtasy could tell you exactly how many yellow upholstered cars there are out there!

No, I can't. Heck, I can't even tell you how many there are in the NSX Club of America! We only have one Spa Yellow Pearl 2002-03 NSX in the club, and he didn't indicate his car's interior color.

Anytime - the seat cushions are not completely straight forward to remove - I discovered yesterday that the foam is actually glued to the aluminum frame, so you have to seperate this very carefully. Not a major obstacle but you can't just pull it up - you need to slice carefully close to the frame or you will just run the risk of tearing the foam, leaving more attached to the frame than you'd like! The manual has a decent procedure although the location of the glue was different than the illustration.
Incidentally, I was working on a seat already removed from the car - can't envisage trying to do this with the seat in place in the car.

How funny, I just removed all the leather from my seats this weekend as well (I was installing seat heaters). Things I noticed...

You must removed the seats from the car, no way can this be done with the seats in the car.

Removing the leather from the seats is a pain. If you swap with someone, send the cushions with the leather on.

I'm certain you can swap the bottom cushion between the driver and passenger side, and 98 percent certain for the back cushion. There is a piece of leather with a velcro tab that comes off the head rest and connects to the back cushion. I can't remember if they're on the same side (in which case you can swap) or mirrored (in which case you can't swap perfectly, but nobody would notice). I did not take the back cushion completely off. I didn't need to, and the head rest (which must be removed) would not budge on my seats.

The bottom seat cushion can be removed much easier if you undo the long plastic strip/clip at the back first, then push the two dark plastic clips on the bottom of the seat out from the bottom. Pull the seat up and forward (as mentioned by D'Ecosse the cushion will be glued to the aluminium, so be prepared to cut that). Once you have it all the way forward the last four plastic clips on the front can now be popped out from behind with no effort.

Hope this helps. Have fun. I found this task to be a major job. I did make $.53 in change that was lying under my seats though.
