Hello all,
I have recently purchased a NRG quick release hub/adapter and an OMP wheel but cannot seem to get any clear answers from the party that suppleid the parts regarding retaining the passenger side airbag and the SRS light function. I have had the wheel off and wound up putting it back together once so all I need is a little technical support from someone who has successfully completed this project. I have seen this modification (photographs on Prime) on many cars and have to believe that this is possible. I have tried to search back posts with no luck addressing these specific aspects of the installation. We are in the rain duldrems up here in Seattle and I need a project!
Thanks in advance to any that may be able to offer and guidance!

Brian,

What specific questions did you have? I have done this installation using a momo, and BOSS hub, not an NRG, but it's the same concept.

The NRG allows you to retain the cable reel, there are two contacts which must be shorted together, in the SRS harness, to 'fake' the SRS system into thinking there is still a driver-side airbag installed. With these contacts shorted, the SRS light on the dash will not light, as the system will think all components are present, and functional.

I am not sure if the passenger airbag is still functional, if the SRS system thinks it is working properly, it should send a signal to both airbags, but I don't think anyone with one of these aftermarket wheels has gotten into an airbag deployment type of accident to test this out.

Here is the write up I used to install my steering wheel, it is from the http://www.nsxbuilder.com website:

Thanks a ton!
I will review your lead and open her up again to check out the SRS light issue. Do you have a 2 airbag model?

Yes, I have a 1994 nsx with driver, and passenger, airbags.

A tip for the link above, the order of the pins are correct in the picture, but the pin numbers are incorrect (they are reversed); this is the SRS connector under the kick panel, by where your knees would be if you were sitting (the connector the steering cable reel plugs into). You can short the wires at this harness (as I have done), or trace them with a multimeter through the cable reel, and short them in the steering hub.

It's my understanding that pass. airbag is still functional while drivers is bypassed. The computer still thinks the drivers airbag is in place so everything else still functions.

If you retained the cable reel you just need to remove the steering wheel and locate the two yellow connectors that you pulled through the NRG short hub. One plug has three pins and one has four pins. You want the smaller plug with three pins. You need to jump the the two outside pins together. (ignore the center pin.) This will trick the SRS computer into thinking that the drivers airbag is installed and extinguish the SRS light. This should still leave the passenger airbag functional.

I used a small 2" piece of 20 gauge wire with two of the smallest female spade crimp type connectors (from Ace Hardware) to jump the two pins.

The other (larger) plug is for the cruise control. Let me know if you need to know which pins to use for that to function.
