Need a quick answer regarding switching to synthetic oil

I'm going to change the oil on my NSX today and have always just used regular oil but I'd like to change to mobil 1 synthetic. My question is do I have to do anything special like flushing the engine before making the switch? I recall an Amsoil guy saying you need to add a flush product to your old oil, run it for five minutes and then drain and add amsoil but I've never heard anything regarding mobil 1. Can someone help me? I'm about to start in a bout an hour and want to be sure I am doing the right thing.

No flushing required. Just drain the oil, change the filter, install new filter and crush washer, add Mobil One and your set. Good Luck

To drain the most possible old oil, make sure the engine is warm before draining. Other than that, there should be no problems switching to synthetic oil unless you have potential leaks in your system. If so, the synthetic might change the potential leaks to actual leaks.

Thanks guys,
I noticed around my oil pan seal that it's getting kinda gunky, hopefully the synthetic doesn't accelerate how quickly that seeps out. Then again a 13 year old car probably is in need of a new gasket next time it goes in.

If you have sludge build up around your oil pan gasket you should fix that before switching to synthetic oil or IT WILL LEAK. Synthetic oil doesn't sludge like fossil oil--which is a plus if your engine gaskets are tight, but which also means that it will leak out of loose gaskets.

Crap, well I'll keep a close eye on it and do it when I see more an issue than now.

Is changing the oil pan gasket a do it yourself type of thing or is this better left to the pros? I was looking down there and it appeared from a quick glance that most of the screws were accessible. Just would like to hear from those who've maybe done this on their own?

So you really have to take the exhaust off? I thought that might be the one thing in my way..... BrianK, how hard is it for a somewhat mechanically inclined person to do this on their own?

Maybe I should have said your need to remove the pipe from the front exhaust manifold to the converter. I ended up removing the converter also, it was just easier to get to the bolts at the rear of the converter. If you have some experience working on rusty hard to remove exhaust parts you should be ok. You will need good six point sockets, breaker bar and a fair amount of grunt.
You will also need exhaust gaskets and maybe new studs for the converter if you twist one or more of them off.

dnyhof - just curious how much mileage is on your car. Theres a lot of talk how its not recommended to switch to synthetic if you have a higher mileage car.

On the other a friend of mine with a 98 accord v6 change to mobil 1 at 90,000 miles and it ran much quieter and no adverse affects so far.

I converted NSX @ 28K and Legend @ 48K and have had no issues with either. Change each at 3K and hope to go forever.
