Need a cheap commuter ($2-4k) for a friend

My friend's car broke down, and she's in need of a new one. I'm in Austin, but am willing to travel around Texas for a decent deal. Does anyone have any leads?

I am looking for :
Japanese Car
Late 90s early 2000s
Mileage under 100k
Price under $4000
Body damage is fine, but the car needs to be reliable for 1000 miles a week for at least a few months.

Anyone have an old beater that they're not using?

Tough to find any Japanese car to meet those criteria. You might have a better chance if you looked at something like a Ford Focus. They are good cars but have not held their resale value like the Japanese cars do.

Hey Brian, you might be able to find late 1990s-early 2000 Toyota Corollas in that price and mile range. Craigslist would be a good place to start. They seem to be cheaper than Civics, but are probably just as reliable.
