The Alpine DVD system is the best, bar none. The 851 and 852 have the best software w/ voice recognition. I am in the proccess of piecing this system together. Be SURE to buy a DVD based Nav system. THe CDRom versions are terrible.
In addition, the Alpine TME - M760 has one of the best picture qualities for any lcd screen. It fits into the stock pod better than any other display. Chris (SOS) has put together a quality system.
The only downside is the cost, and the frequency of use if you do not travel.

Thanks for your input. As I understand the Nav system will give you voice directions. How do you go about telling it where you want to go. Does the system respond to your voice or do you have to use the remote? Is the remote fairly easy to use? What about the lcd getting washing out with sunlight? Does the pod provide enough shade? I have a Nav system that uses voice recognition to determine where you want to go and then gives verbal instructions. It does not require a screen. It is also cd based and no longer supported (updated cd). So I am debating the SOS system. AT $2800.00 uninstalled, it has a big price tag.
The DVD has a enormous database of street names, attractions, destinations, etc. You use the remote to begin entering the street number then name, and it will pop up a list of best matching. It is very intuitive, and very easy to use.
Even in bright sunlight, the screen is easy to read.
The voice commands are easy to understand, and allow you to concentrate on the road.
Unfortunately, the electronics are expensive. Just the electronics have a $2900.00 list price.
