NA2 Headers on NA1 - O2 Sensor Might Rub?

I put NA2 headers on my '92 and had to trim the oil pan shield to clear the front bank O2 sensor.

Also, the rear bank O2 sensor only has ~1/4 inch between it and a rear brace as shown in the picture below.

I searched and didn't find this covered - my fault if it has been.

I'm concerned about the rear bank - is this correct?

Thanks,

Dave

The shield is larger on na2 vs. na1 most people just leave it off from what I 've seen.

The rear bank O2 should be fine.

OK - Thank You!

I replaced both O2 sensors with the $50 NTK's when I put on the NA2 headers - they didn't appear to be any longer than OEM's.

It just seemed odd Honda designed so much space around all other components on the engine to allow for movement, but this area seemed so tight

Just curious if you can feel the performance improvement with the NA2 headers?

Sorry - I don't have a good comparison.

I went from a totally stock exhaust '92 exhaust system to:

NA2 Headers
(2) 2.25" Magnaflow cats to a single 3" tube out the back.

I lost a lot of low RPM power, but probably gained 35HP between 6000-8000RPM's. My weight savings was 50lbs too.

Sounds wicked

Thanks for posting this. I have a set of NA2 waiting for install (it's got cobwebs now i'm sure). Just to confirm, I shouldn't need to extend the O2 sensor wire length, yes? Also, i'm assuming everything header back is custom piping for you?

Yeah, my NA2 headers were sitting over a year before I finally got around to it....

The OEM O2 sensors have different length wires. One is a few inches longer than the other. I purchased the NGK (NTK) O2 sensors as a replacement - didn't even want to try and remove the 115k milers from the old manifolds. If you do this, you don't have to remove the old sensors from the manifolds. The front bank manifold heat shield will have to be cut a little (I used tin snips) to get it out where you can access the manifold nuts. I bought new gaskets and nuts, and also replaced the oil pan gasket (if your car is old like mine, go ahead and do it now because after headers, the front header will have to be dropped to replace it in the future).

So, the NTK front bank sensor harness needs to be lengthened a good 8 inches (I just cut my old sensor and used the connector from that). IIRC, the two black wires go to two white wires, and the green goes to the grey wire (I think NCDOGDOC has a writeup on this somewhere - I just used a continuity tester to check). The rear sensor length is fine, if you angle the O2 sensor harness across the rear valve cover.

Yes, everything from the headers back is custom. I didn't mess with old seized stuff - just took my sawzall to it.
