My Old Ride

Craig --

As I've never driven a Lotus, I'd be interested in a review. What year is it? If it is around the same as the NSX' introduction, I'd be interested in a 'compare'.

Cheers,

The power and smoothness of the engine was incredible!! The handling...out of this world. This was a '92 with only 18k miles on it. I owned it for only 6 months and was the 3rd Owner. The motor was a 4 cyl. with a Garret turbo it had explosive acceleration, 0-60 in around 5 secs. (on a cool day) While the engine and suspension were world class the fit, finish, detail and electrical systems left alot to be desired. Because of turbo lag it was fairly hard to drive fast other than in a straight line. The NSX is much more refined than the Lotus. It always felt to me like a (very powerful) kit car. I still believe it's the nicest body on the road though, especially the newer twin turbo V8's!! They're nice cars but not even close to the NSX. I was bored with it after 6 months I've had my NSX for 3 years and still feel like I'm on my first date every time I drive it!

A funny story, I've heard many of you speak of being in the game industry. One day while on a triple digit speed run I saw a plainly marked vehicle whip a U in my mirror after slowing down he finally caught up with me and I thought my goose was cooked as I could see him pointing what looked like a speed gun at me. This guy followed me all the way home so I drove past my house turned at the end of the street and met him window to window to ask him who he was and what he wanted. Turns out he was a neighbor who was a programer for a game manufacturer and was working on one of those "need for speed" games, The speed gun turned out to be a video camera and he just wanted actual footage of that model of car moving through the real world to help him with the project.

Funny!

Craig, if you're bumping into the Need for Speed team you must be located up in the NW region, right?

BTW, one of my NSXer friends just went the other way...switching from a red/tan '94 NSX to a blacck/tan '97 Lotus twin turbo V8. 'Tis a cool car with a ton more torque, but it's no NSX.

Actually I'm in So. Cal. but this guy traveled alot, I never got to know him (he was always gone). And it might not have been that exact game. I ment to imply it was something similar as I have only seen "Need For Speed" on the shelf and used that game as a reference.

Akira3d, Did you go to last years Canyon Ball Run? If so The guy with the black Lotus s4s was a friend of mine that I invited from South Bay. Like some of this forums X'rs go to Japan for parts, he travels to Europe and has factory connections, that Lotus is extensively modified.

But your right it's no NSX!!

If I'm not mistaken, I believe Alex Vizcarra is an ex-Lotus man himself.

Where in SoCal? Just curious.

I did go to last year's Canyonball and I actually have a photo of your friend's black Lotus on my NSX website.

My friend was also at Canyonball, but in his NSX of course.

He just got his Lotus a few weeks ago. We both work in Santa Monica so we get together for lunch every once and awhile (and also try to make the NSXCA dinner meetings....man that traffic is rough).

If I'm not mistaken, I believe Alex Vizcarra is an ex-Lotus man himself.

You might be right about that. Alex was admiring my friend's Lotus at the last meeting.

Yeh, your not kidding about the traffic, I have'nt even made it to one of the monthly meetings for that exact reason.

I'm in Thousand Oaks, Just on the inland side of all of the great beach canyons we ran in the afternoon of Canyon Ball Run. This is where I regularly go to "Get it on"

.

I know there are a few club mbrs up this way so if any of you West Siders find yourself's in the Malibu canyons make sure you let me know in advance. I also have a few friends with some nice equipment that may want to go along.
