Since there have been some garage threads recently, I thought I would share the progress of mine. My new home is nearly complete and this is what my garage looks like currently.

It is an extra wide double deep garage that I will be using for my NSX and trailer.

Cool garage...it will look even better with the NSX-T sitting there. :)

Mark, garage looks unreal. I hope one day I can have something similar of my very own. Slightly off-topic- Are you instructing for the Integra Type R "5" gathering....?

Yeah, the pole sucks but, it's out of the way. There's plenty of room to get the trailer in the back of the garage. The NSX won't even need to deal with it.

The floor tile will pe in within the next couple of days. and I will be painting with a Honda color scheme. Will post pics.

How tall are your ceilings Mark?
That is going to look nice.
Also, is that a below grade Garage? Is it connected to the Basement? Just wondering about the poured walls. If my eyes aren't playing tricks on me.

Is that a support post or something else ? I dont know about anyone else but that would bug the hell out of me and I would find a way to get rid of it or move it.

Definitely looks like a load bearing post.

It's definitely a load bearing post. Part of what comes with having such a large span. You could put up a wall, but that is even more intrusive than the post. I still would be tempted to close in that front corner of the garage up to the post, then have the wall turn back in towards the personell door, and make a large closet. Just a thought.

I would rather have the post there as opposed to my living room in the garage. Wrap it in Brass ,dim the lights and "Poof" instant change :)

I would try to get a beam across and then two posts closer to the sides to open up that area .... what happens if you drive into it by mistake ..DoH !

Add a couple of bumpers to help prevent dings.

I think you have a great future in home renovations.
If life gives you lemons, make lemonade, if life gives you a pole in your garage, use the Lemons to make vodka shooters for the girls :)

PS Nice garage Mark, see you at Homestead

if it really does bother you... an I-beam and 2 post one on each end (by the door and by the angled wall) would shore up that floor. I would hate to somehow run into that poll, and have the ceiling fall in on top of you while you are in the car...(not that that would happen, but it could happen.

This is exactly what im thinking but we dont know whats hiding inside those soffets. I suspect plumbing and it maybe easier just to live with the pole then to move it and I guess its why its still there...lol

The ceilings are 9' other than the soffit areas.

Yes and no. At street level, I have a standard 3-car garage. This garage is is part of my walk-out basement. The extra driveway cost some extra but, it is worth it.

It is indeed a support post. Three steel beams come together at that point in the ceiling.

Not necessary. The distance between the wall and the post is roughly 11'.

But then I would loose the space for parking my trailer.

I thought it may be part of the basement. that explains the beam and the poured walls.
It was either that or you spent a ton of $$$'s on concrete.

Looks like you have a nice play room for all the toys.
Have fun.

You haven't seen mark load and unload a trailer. ;)

Mark was at our shop recently for some work, and I've never seen someone able to load a trailer including strap down in less than 5 minutes. Amazing.

Mark,

why would you park your trailer inside? Isn't it a pain to get it in and out? Parking a trailer is not exactly an easy feat.
