My 'new' 1988 BMW M5

I love the old school M series. What made you pick an older M5 vs and E30 M3 or the 92-97 M5 (whatever that is called, I'm no M-expert). I LOVE the E30 M3s even though they probably drive like shit compared to anything else these days....

Congrats on picking up a supercool car!!

Thanks.

I love them all, but the E28 M5 has always had a special place in my heart. It was the ultimate sleeper, the ultimate Q-ship, the ultimate sports sedan of the 80s. I was a kid, and it made quite an impression.

The 2nd generation M5 is the E34, offered from 1989-1995, but only 1991-1993 in the US.

Actually, the M3s (and the M5/M6) drive quite well even today. E30 M3s remain quite competitive at track events.

Congrats! I always loved the 'any color you want, as long as it is black' philosophy they had with the E28 M5.

Yes, they sure like to dictate to the US market. Europeans got lighter, more powerful cars with smaller bumpers and a choice of colors and trim.

For the US, there were a few with black interiors, somewhere in the 10-20 range, but the rest of the 1220 or so were black w/tan interior. Mine is black/tan.

Great pickup for the collection:biggrin: I have always been a huge M-Fanatic and have several over the years. As Ski Banker had mentioned, these cars just feel "OLD" to me know-a-days. Let us know how you like her, Congrats

This car was in my garage for a week in 2006, and I drove it to work and around town. I like it a lot.

Yes, my 2003 M3 is technologically superior and outperforms the old M5 in every performance category.

And yet, when it comes to the subjective I find the M5 more appealing. It has a raw, visceral quality to it that more advanced cars lack.

It is an emotional issue.

Ryan, it looks great, congrats!! Ride please?

Absolutely.

I probably won't have it until the middle of April, perhaps later. The seller is going to take it to my mechanic and it needs a few things before I take it home.

Lovely weather we are having . . .

I have a few more pics from 2006:

Ewww, why would you want such a Yucky old car?

Took my 90 to a track event at Streets of Willow with the
So Cal NSX group. What a blast!

You either get it, or you dont.............
Good job!

Beautiful cars, All three of my BMW's were Cosmos Scwartz metalic including my M3 and E46 Facelift 330Ci :)

E28 M5 IMO is the most special M5 and will continue to appreciate in value. It was actually created for Bobby Rahal private sedan then they brought it public.

Congrats!!! The car looks to be in good condition. I have always had a place in my heart for E34 M5's.
