My Comptech Widebody arrived at my Body Shop today. After the Widebody is put on, then the 2002 headlights go on, a carbon fiber hood, and a New Paint Job. Can't Wait to show you the finished pics. Kit comes with 9 pieces. A front bumper, rear bumper, side skirts, 2 rear fenders, 2 front fenders, and a spoiler. My new website www.projectnsx.com will be up soon.

Cyan,

Good for you,
What color will your car be?
What kind of material is used for each part in the kit?

Cool! I can't wait to see the finished product. They haven't sold vary many of those kits, do you know how many?

Say, is it just me, or do all body shops the world over leave cars sit for weeks with the windows rolled down just so they can fill with dust, paint overspray, etc. for the express purpose of pissing me off? I can't tell you how many times I've had cars in that really got covered and that stuff can never be fully cleaned out of the dash.

I've never understood that.

Yes.
Nothing is funnier than seeing the owner turn on the defroster or a/c and get a face full of dust furiously twisting their head and waving their hands helplessly, held in place by their seat belt and unable to escape!
After they leave the men will each ask me hopefully, "ED?" and I have to tell their sad faces "no.... but someday".

Cyan, what a cool project. You must be pretty stoked. My NSX is in the shop now too, but just to get a 2002 rear valance and a Style nose. It'll be totally repainted as well. I've often thought about the widebody, as it looks to me like what the NSX always should have been built like[to begin with. But maybe that's just me.

I notice that the side vents seem to be molded into the rear quarter panels. Is there a mesh supplied to cover these after the paint process? Also, the fuel door is round. What fuel cap do you have to use for it? Can you change the fuel door to accept something cool like the SOS fuel filler kit?

nsxbuilder, a good shop will do a repaint by removing all the body panels, including the doors, on a car like the NSX. However, that being said, a better shop will tape the interior off once the doors are removed!

Can't wait to see the end results Cyan! And post pics of the progress along the way.

I am going to put a carbon fiber vent in there, but I believe you can also put the stock piece back. The fuel door is round and I am going to use the cantrell concepts piece. I talked to them about it and it will fit fine. The Comptech Widebody is the most expensive kit out there, but I also think its the highest quality and look. My bodyshop did the original one for Rj's NSX, and they said that everything basically bolts on. I don't know how many Widebody's Comptech has sold, but again the look is amazing, and the fit is nice. You will probably spend more money on labor trying to get those other widebody kits out there to fit right and I know some of the other rear ones you have to mold onto your stock pieces, while the Comptech replaces everything. So I think in the end if you count the labor cost the Comptech Kit will cost the same or even less then those other widebodys out there. And why would you want to mold fiberglass fenders to your stock aluminum fenders? I was thinking about getting the Taitec stuff, but the Comptech looks so much better IMO.

i maybe wrong but i remember reading somewhere that the camelion paint that changes colors was illegal in cali as it distracts drivers with its color show.

Good meeting you at Beach Autosound. Can not wait to see your finished product.
Check out this guys custom fabrication shop. www.mastergrade.net
My S2000 is going to be a guinea pig for his ideas. So far I am very excited about his Ferrari Maranello Hood that he had developed for the S2000. He also will want to create a kit for my NSX.

I'm disappointed. I was hoping it would be a lighter blue, so your car could match your NSXprime username.

but the car would not be aluminium anymore though.

The only aluminum parts that will be lost are the fenders, although in aluminum they are light as a feather (I would be interested to know the weight difference between the OEM and the Comptech parts). The door skins, roof, and trunk lid remain stock and they are aluminum, as is the rest of the space frame. The other parts being replaced were plastic.

Ditto to that. Almost exactly a year ago I test drove the first 02 NSX to hit SoCal, and it was painted in Cameleon-like Imola Orange with a hint of Metallic Green to the dealer's request by Honda. This was the same car that was featured at Acura display booth at the LA auto show 4 days after my test drive. I must say that this car with this paint job was the most stunning 02 NSX I've ever seen in person!

Ok the paint I have finally decided to go with is manufactured by BASF and is in its Xtreme line. Its called Purple Haze, and it is chromaflair which means it can change from Purple to Blue. Can't wait to I get my car out of the body shop. Then it goes into the stereo shop.

Hi Cyan,

Looks like an extensive project. Looking forward to seeing the pictures of the finished product.

BTW - what are you total plans for the car? Are you doing this for shows? Can you guestimate your budget for the entire project?

Just curious...

Apparently Comptech is releasing or has released a new widebody kit that is not as wide as this one. I'll try to get some pics.
