Is it just me, or does that seem a little pricey for a 45ft boat?
I'd be thinking more around 2-300k.

yeah that seems way more money than a 45 ft boat should cost, A friend of mine works at a yard that only works on yachts and he was showing me a 70ft vessel with dual huge diesels and 2 cabins +huge galley and dining room for 1.6 mil brand new.

why are yachts so expensive? I mean what exactely costs so much in them? the engine? or what?

it may be the demand.

see other thread of most expensive houses. Other articles on Forbes talk about how $1,000,000 won't buy you ANY home in Aspen, because of high demand, and low supply.

as for boats... I don't get it?

Lol!

Haha... nice pun in regards to "Fast & The Furious"

DumbWhyteBoi: "How much was retail on that?"

Arrogant_H'woodType: "More than you can afford pal, Ferrari."

Buff-Meathead_Ricer: "Smoke him."

Yachts are generally made-to-order, not exactly the most efficient means of production (ex. vs. Henry Ford, assembly-line/Model_T). Think of American Chopper (OCC) or West Coast Chopper (w/ Jesse James) on DISCOVERY, how labor intensive the construction, assembly, fabrication, finishing is. Alot of these vessels are 'bespoke', meaning personalised & original.

hmmm, but I still see an excessive cost on anything marine made. I think Jetskies are mass produced but are they are still pretty expensive compared to cars or even bikes.

niche...

The two best days for a boat owner are the day you buy it and the day you sell it. I had a 33' ocean race sail boat. Owning that boat was like standing in a cold shower and tearing up hundred dollar bills.

On the day of the sea trial for the new owner, it was fantastic. What a wonderful day. Then I regained my senses and remembered why I was selling it. It's smarter to charter.
