"911 specs, Nissan price

We’ve already told you Nissan chief Carlos Ghosn has promised the return of the Skyline GT-R at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show, followed by worldwide sales—United States included (AW, Nov. 3, 2003). Ghosn has said development time for a globally competitive car explains why the car won’t appear until then, but now he has narrowed the field of sports cars to a key benchmark for the next GT-R: Porsche’s 911. “It has really good performance” while having an affordable price tag, says Ghosn. "

Interesting note: I remember reading that Nissan mentioned used the Porsche 944 Turbo as their "target" for creating the 300zx. The Porsche 944 Turbo cost around $47k back in 89, and the 300zx cost around $33k in 90. (70% the cost of the Porsche)

Assuming they are going after the 911 C2 (320hp) ($65k) , then the GT-R will probably be around $45k (65 x 0.7) and 300+ hp (probably slightly higher than the Carrera 2 - the 340hp V8 in the Q would work great). That would put it right in the (333hp M3, 340hp S4, 355hp 05 SLK55 AMG V8, and 400hp C6) territory.

I think the year 2007 will be the year of the Japanese super cars

NSX , Skyline, and something from Toyota are all coming out at that time. andthe natural thing we usually see out of the Japanese manufacturing industry is that each and every otehr major car manufacturer will join the fun and also produce thier super car.

The 2005 997 is going to be a 3.6, 340-350hp. The 2007 998 is going to be V8 powered. The next M3 or M4, whatever they're going to call it, will also be V8 powered. Who knows what's going to come from AMG by 2007. I'd expect the Skyline to have 450+hp. There seems to be no end to the horsepower wars.
