I have received similar scam e-mails claiming to be from eBay, from my Paypal account, from my ISP, and from several different financial institutions, most of which I don't even have accounts at.

There are several tip-offs that they are scam e-mails. One is that the real companies don't address you as "Dear Customer"; they use your name. One is that the real companies don't ask you to verify your information. One is that you should never enter the websites for the real companies by clicking on a link in their e-mail; go to their website by typing in their company name and navigate from there. One is that when you go to the link in the website, you will find that the website address that results is not in the company's domain (does not end in, for example, ebay.com).

You can report scam e-mails by going to eBay's website, and at the bottom of the page, clicking on Security Center.

I get the same almost weekly, both from "ebay" and from "paypal".
Simply forward the suspect email to "[email protected]" or "[email protected]" (depending on the scam target) and you will have a reply within minutes giving you the official response. Following is what I got from yesterday's attempt:

Thank you for contacting PayPal.

Thank you for bringing this suspicious email to our attention. We can
confirm that the email you received was not sent to you by PayPal. The
website linked to this email is not a registered URL authorized or used
by PayPal. We are currently investigating this incident fully. Please do
not enter any personal or financial information into this website.

If you have surrendered any personal or financial information to this
fraudulent website, you should immediately log into your PayPal Account
and change your password and secret question and answer information. Any
compromised financial information should be reported to the appropriate
parties.

If you notice any unauthorized activity associated with your PayPal
transaction history, please immediately report this to PayPal by
following the instructions below:

1. Log in to your account at https://www.paypal.com/ by entering
your email address and password into the Member Log In box

2. Click on the Security Center at the bottom of the page

3. Click on 'Report a Problem'

4. Select the Topic: Report Fraud

5. Select the Subtopic: Unauthorized use of my PayPal Account

6. Enter your question in the 'Summarize your question in one
sentence' box

7. Click Continue

8. Follow the instructions to access the appropriate form

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us again.

Sincerely,
PayPal Account Review Department

I guess people fall for this as the scammers never stop trying.

I get weekly e-mails about my ISP credit card info being out of date.
"As a result your e-mail will be suspended if you don't act immediately."

These messages do look authentic.
But as nsxtasy stated: "Dear Customer" is the tip off.
