Well, it finally happened. I picked up my car this morning after it being scrap metal for over 5 months. The shop had my car for a month and 2 weeks fixing a list of this-and-that’s that turned into a nightmare. But today the sun was shining, the Bucks won again, and my car has been relinquished from its prison.
I was a little afraid to start up the car after I got to the dealership because of the new exhaust setup I am running. The car was parked indoors (of course!) where everything echoes a bit more. My new setup consists of Taitec headers, bypass pipes, and my modified SuperTrapp muffler with Banzai resonating tips. So pretty much I’m running strait through without any back pressure. My exhaust was LOUD before, so I was planning on changing out the exhaust for a newer, quieter one before even showing up for the car. WRONG! I lit her up and dipped the pedal. Immediately smiles etched their way across all the faces of the Acura staff who had gathered around to see this car finally leave. I wish I could describe the sound to you guys, but it is not like anything I have ever heard. I wasn’t even sure what to think at first. It was so … different.
Now, some of you know that my car was LOUD before. But while loud at WOT is a beautiful thing, loud at stand still is just plain tacky. I let the car drop to idle to see how the low end sounded. Silence. I check the tachometer to make sure the car didn’t just die on me. “No, I can now hear this rumble of baritone emanating somewhere from behind me. That’s me?”
As I tell the guys in the garage who are holding their thumbs up goodbye, I back out of the garage and punch the gas while turning to head to the access lane. SNAP! Oh $#!T! Unbelievable! One of the mods I had installed while the car was under was SOS’s non-compliance bushings and toe-links. I did not know how much of an effect these little puppies would have, but WOW. The car now feels as if it is a roller coaster with rails locked under its backend. It works so well that now I’m faced with wanting the NSX-R front chassis reinforcement bars so the front feels as solid as the rear. Oh no! I’ve got mod fever again!
I spent the entire day driving the NSX. The sun was out, the top was down (mine is a convertible), and the exhaust note was so beautiful that the hours slipped away along with a tank of high octane fuel. And I can’t wait for more sunny days.
