Hopefully this is considered NSX DIY related.

Planning to change the oil this weekend
Last year Pep boys sold a $1 calender with Buy 1 Get 1 Free Mobile 1 Synth. coupons inside.

Anyone found good deals on Mobile 1 synthetic oil lately?

(It appears the 2006 pep boys calendar doesnt have this coupon)

The coupon in the 2006 calendar is for $.50 or $1 off per quart, if I recall correctly. Not a great deal.

Watch your local stores for ads. Otherwise, I believe the best deals are at Sam's and Costco; in my area, they sell Mobil 1 (the 10W30 viscosity recommended for the NSX, as well as 5W30) and it's now up to around $28 for a case of six quarts. In some areas, you can buy Mobil 1 in five-quart jugs at Wal-Mart; they used to be around $20 but I bet they've gone up a few bucks since then too.

If you're willing to use another brand of 100 percent synthetic, sometimes there are good deals. Pennzoil had some great bargains on their synthetic a few months ago ($4/quart sale price less $15/case rebate brought the price of a six-quart case down to around $10).

Never knew for sure, but, if you change your oil and filter every 3-4K miles does the synthetic oil really make a difference?
It's a misconception that the only purpose of synthetic oil is to extend your oil change intervals. (The oil manufacturers no longer recommend that you do so with synthetic anyway.) There are two advantages to synthetic oil: it's more resistant to harmful heat-related effects when hot, and it flows better when cold. The only significant downside is cost. Your car, your decision.

The coupon was this month, fifty cents off per qt, six max on Pennzoil Syn, $25.74 in SoCal

Sam's Club sells cases of Mobil 1 full syn. Not sure what weights and prices, though.

I checked out my local Sam's club. They didn't have mobile 1. They only had castrol and some other unrecognizable brands.

I guess selections can vary by club and times...

Synthetic oils are superior in numerous ways. Much of it only oil guru's really understand the benifits/purpose of. However, as mentioned, synthetics cool much more efficiently, have a higher boiling point, are more durable, and function better in both temperatures.

However, synthetic oils will be more prone to leakage. Obviously, if your engine seals are in good condition and are functioning correctly it makes little difference.

There is tons of information on oil analysis and synthetic vs mineral oils.

Just picked up a 10W30 six pack at Sam's. $29.54 + tax.

Funny, I was just looking in my local Sam's Club a few hours ago, and the price was similar ($29.89, I think). Usually Sam's Club (and Costco) are significantly less expensive than other stores, but this is one of those exceptions. I checked Autozone earlier this week and they were selling individual quarts for $4.79, regular (not sale) price, which works out about a dollar a case less - not enough to worry about, but interesting that Sam's isn't less than that.

I purchased two five gallon jugs from wall mart, I think they were $20 and change, maybe $20.99 or something. It was a good deal.

That would be an AMAZING deal - normally you'd only expect to get 5 quarts for that price <!--StartFragment -->

Good catch!

Disregard :P Make that two 5 quart bottles, I guess if they were five gallons they would be pretty big.
