I read the FAQ about the redline oil notchiness. I had the same issue on my previous car until I started using Mobil 1 oil. I was wondering how many of u out there are running this in your nsx? I am going to put it in next week. I'll let u know how it runs. Hopefully not as notchy.

I've used synthetic motor oil, Redline MTL, and Honda transmission oil in mine. I didn't notice any difference at all among them.

BTW my recollection is that you can use 10W30 or 10W40 in the NSX transmission. 10W30 would be better for those of us (including you) in northern climates, while 10W40 might be okay but primarily for those in the Sunbelt or Guam (hi, Richard).

Im using mobil1 10w30 synthetic in the tranny and of course the motor as well. Did not notice any difference between that and whatever the dealer put in there a year and half earlier. Seems to shift fine and otherwise work great here in California's mild climate.

I bought Redline MTL today. My car has a slight grind when shifting at redline fron 2nd to 3rd. I am hoping this will fix it.

For the 60 k manual transmission change in my Integra I tried Mobil 1 Synthetic in the grade Honda recommended.

Shifting was notchier with it that mineral oil. I drained it out soon after and put in Redline and had no problems.

I'm going to put Redline in the NSX soon.

:D You guys should consider "Amsol " brand synthetics I have been really impressed by them. crankcase and transmission..

My nsx is in the shop for tranny swap. What tranny oil do you guys recommend for 6 spds? I am planning to use Honda MT oil, but, i am not sure if that is what recommended by honda or not. Can someone please help me?

I am not considering Redline MT. For those of you who swear by Redline, this might be a surprise to you.

During 1998-2000, Redline were THE product among most Supra owners. Naturally, Supra 6 spds owners used cheaper alternative: Redline ATF-D4 oil (10 buck a qtr)recommended by Redline over Toyota V160 oil (factory recommendation, 50 buck a qtr). Everything seemed fine, some even claimed that "it shifts better & smoother". After a couple years, some 6spds owner start to experience their shifter WONT center before engine warm-up. After intensive research by supra owners & Getrag (supra 6spds oe maker), they realized that Redline ATF-D4 would eat away the bushing around the spring of some sort, to cause this problem.

This redline fiasco caused symptom anywhere from cold-centering problem to complete tranny breakdown. Toyota dont sell parts for Getrag tranny, so, replacing the whole tranny was the only solution $$$.. MSRP of a tranny was about $ 8k.. No replacement parts are available within US. Until recently, there are a few grp buys directly from TRD JPN or TRD Europe for parts to relief irrated injured-6spd owners.

Redline declined to stand behind their product, no compensation were considered, and no appology were issued, only stop recommending Redline ATF D4 to supra owners as if nothing ever happened. Needless to say this pissed off every Supra owners who used redline products.

Moral of story, do enough research before you dick around with your expensive toy. And avoid to use products from irresponsible companies.

Honda recommends the Honda MTF (manual transmission fluid).

So do I.
