Mercedes SLK32 AMG

Wow, I’m pretty impressed. Over the last few weeks I have been helping my mother-in-law inspect, negotiate, and buy a Mercedes SLK. Before I started looking, I had no idea that the AMG version of these small little convertibles came stock with 349 HP and can do 4.8 second zero-to-sixty, and 13.0 second quarter mile runs. Driving it on the street, the 245/40/17 staggered 225/25/17 tires provide pretty decent handling, although it could be stiffer and have better steering feel. Overall, I am impressed. If you want a convertible with a super slick operating top, you might check one of these out.

One of my coworkers bought a black one of these two weekends ago...but he's decided to keep it at his primary home in San Francisco (if I was frequently making the trip between S.F. and L.A., I'd certainly want to take the SLK55 AMG). I guess I understand his argument...his Santa Monica home only has a car port.

Funny thing is that he only got to drive it from the dealership to his home...in the rain. And he's been down here since. Now that the weather has cleared up, I'm sure he's really eager to head back to S.F. and put some miles on his new car.

Yes, the MBZ SLK32 AMG is a BLAST! :biggrin:

For the last year I have been looking to buy the "Right" 2001-2002 BMW M Coupe with the S54 315HP. But it has been disapointing with what I have found available. Either too many miles or too much money for what I found (or both!). I was also looking for a very specific color. Besides the S54 engine has known bottom end problems.

So I decided to spend a little more $ and buy a SLK32 :biggrin:

I now have a 2002 Sapphire Blue for my daily driver.
This blue is RARE for the AMG package. Common colors are black and silver. There are a few other special order color and trim options as well.
The 349HP Supercharged 3.2 has more than enough ponies and tq to move the 3,100#s of BENZ chassis 4.8 sec. 0-60 is true but it really shines from 40-90mph. It is also quite smooth to 120+mph. This SLK also corners well and likes to be Driven :wink:

Don't let the 5-speed auto trans fool you into thinking that this coupe is not fun to shift. It is amazingly fast with upshift and it downshifts with braking.

It's also pretty cool with the retractable hardtop. Kind of reminds me of the FORD "Retractable" built in the late 1950's. But a whole lot more FUN ------ Up or down in 22 sec. This gets plenty of attention at traffic signals

Boy, I could go on and on about the car but really you need to go for a ride to understand it. Better yet, drive one yourself!

Yes, MBZ changed the SLK32 and it is now the SLK55 with V8 power and 7-speed auto transmission. It is NA and puts out 360HP and a little more torque. I have been thinking that I might like to get a new SLK55 but since this is the first year of production I think that I will wait a year or two for the bugs to get worked out.

I hope that my reply has not come off as an advertisement for MBZ. Lets just call it an endorsement :wink:
I have owned other MBZ SL cars (SL450, SL380, SLC450) and this is by far the most fun I have had in a BENZ.

A curious thing?! This Website is almost IDENTICLE to NSX Prime :smile: You have to see it to understand. The Layout, Thread Format, Avatars, Members List, etc. It works for Prime and it seems to work for them also. Maybe the site layout is generic for both these sites? It is tweeked a little.... The Moderators allow animated Avatars. I also noticed that there is A LOT more "colorful" personalities there. Not to say that Prime does not see a lot of different personalities but this MBZ site is amusing reading on many Threads. Check it out, you may find it interesting...

The new SLK 32 AMG is realy a nice car, i drove the SLK 350 plenty of times and with more power, i think it would be even more fun to drive. BUT >60 000€ is nuts .. could get you 3 05 Mustang convertible.

You are right, the slk32amg is an awesome car. I bought a red 03 for my wife and I enjoy driving it more than I thought I would. It whooped my 91 nsx on the dragstrip but have not tried it on the road course yet. I find it funny how many people complain its ride is harsh and punishing yet compared to the nsx I find it rather soft.
