just in case you had not heard:

Honda Recalls 600,000 Vehicles for Defect
American Honda Motor Co. is recalling 600,000 minivans and sport utility
vehicles in the United States and Canada because their transmissions can
fail. Honda said Wednesday that it has received no reports of deaths or
injuries due to the defect. Involved in the recall are 2002-2004 Honda
Odyssey minivans, 2003-2004 Honda Pilot SUVs and 2001-2002 Acura MDX SUVs.
Honda said insufficient lubrication can lead to heat build-up and broken
gears in the transmission. Owners may notice noises coming from the
transmission if the gears break. In rare instances, gear breakage could lock
up the vehicle's transmission. Honda said it has confirmed 10 cases in which
the transmission failed. All were vehicles with high mileage. Honda will
begin notifying owners about the defect at the end of April. Honda dealers
will inspect gears for free and replace the transmission if necessary.

You know what's interesting - Honda seems to have a very high number of problems with transmissions, mostly with the Acura brand. They had a very high profile issue with the transmissions on the last style TL, the NSX snap ring, this recall....I wonder what the deal is. My TL-S had a weird stutter to the transmission at speed that almost felt like the car stalled out, the revs would drop to about 400 rpm, then shoot back up - and my car wasn't even in the "problem zone".

Unsettling for such a good car company.

Thanks for the info, hadn't heard of this one before. I just had to replace a defective EFR last month. :(

I have a 01 Odyssey and Honda extended the warrantly voluntarily on the Auto transmission from 36k to 100k. At least they are stepping up to the plate and admitting fault.

I think that Honda just can't get the Auto tranny right.

Crap. I didn't think this one was going to affect my Pilot...this is the SECOND recall for our SUV.
