McLaren is Buying Comptech

If you can believe what they say, it sounds like they wanted a quick way into the high-end aftermarket business, so if anything it may increase development of such parts. That is if past NSX parts sales justify it. I'm a bit surprised at the modest 2001 revenue of $7.5 million.

Actually, McLaren uses Mercedes Benz power while the cars campaigned by Sir Frank Williams use the BMW powerplants.

Actually I believe that "that" McLaren is one in the same.

Recently McLaren licensed some talent and their logo to Linclon for a limited production "McLaren" badged Linclon LS coupe.

Their motive seems to be clear...to get into the mass produced, main stream (US) market in order to diversify the company. For a publically traded company the Comptech acquisition will show the stockholders that their serious about pursuing their plan to go forward with their stratagy. Additionally, it seems as though it will put them into yet another racing series...in North America no less

A well rounded plan?

The ownership of the Mclaren in question is not clear but it appears from their website that there is no relation other than the name and a common "ancestor".

And best of all, now we can get a "Powered by McLaren" stickers, which must be good for a few hundred RWHP!

A buddy of mine is VP of McLaren Technologies based in Livonia, Michigan. It's a public company traded on Nasdaq MCLN.
No relation to F1 McLaren, a private company owned by Mansoor Ojjeh (Saudi TAG), Ron Dennis and Mercedes.

I talked to Bob L. and he said he will have an official press release from Comptech next week.

The short unofficial version is: They are jazzed about the deal, and NSX owners can expect business as usual with Comptech.

Haha. As part of the acquisition, Shad is being promoted to Director of their new Oil Cap division.
