Maybe we should look at motorcylces to get an idea of the new HSC

I'm a motorcycle and car guy - have been for a long time. In motorcylces Honda gives ground to no one. Check out their new CBR1000 RR, or CBR600RR. Check it out here: http://powersports.honda.com/motorcycles/sport/.

Some tests, comparing the top new 1 litre sport bikes, rank Honda number 1 (www.motorcycle.com), with specs like a quarter mile time under 10 seconds @ 145 MPH!! from a stock $11,000 CBR 1000 RR, or in the low 11 second range @ 130+ MPH from a 600 CC engine putting out 170 HP/litre for $8,600 in the CBR 600 RR!!! More impressive is the engineering - read it for yourself, but motorcycle engineering is as sophisticated as Forumula 1.

I find it hard to believe that a company that wants to dominate one form or motor vehicle (motorcycles) would be content to be an "also ran" in the larger car market. As much as I'd love to buy a new $60K NSX, I doubt that will happen.

Like many of us, I'm somewhat financially challenged. But for $10K I get all the grins I can handle on a sportbike. Take the Keith Code Superbike class ($2,000 for two days, everything included http://superbikeschool.com/us/index.shtml or take the basic class for $400 using your bike) and wait to see what Honda Motors does with the HSC.

By the time the new car comes out, you'll have had a world of fun on the bike, and you'll be able to sell it for 75% of what you paid for it. Insurance is dirt cheap, at least relative to a car if you get liability only, and service and parts are reasonable as well. Get a good set of riding gear (budget $1,500, you can do it for less) and you're done. Learning to ride a bike will make you a better car driver too - not a lot of room for error with two tires!

just bought a new 03 cbr 954rr. it is plenty fast. Interestingly enough, everything i've read on the new 04 litre class, the honda is the slowest (marginally slower) of the class.
but also the easiest to drive fast.

i found this to be true of my 03 as well. very predictable and well engineered bike. but then again i havent pushed it really hard yet. still getting used to those throttle wheelies and moderate cornering.

thanks. Personal experience?

Ive heard this before, but only from second hand anecdotes. Three dealers dismissed the need, although they would do install if i insisted.

They claimed the 'tank slappers' were very rare and resulted from dropping the front after wheelies.

No, I sell motorcycle parts, and do development on bikes. I did have a 954 myself for a while also. I still do some work on bikes, for many years thats all I did, both wrenching at professional motorcycle racing levels and owning, and working at motorcycle shops. You can see some backround at my website.

Yeah, get the rotary type damper. He is right sooner or later, you will need it.
As far as Honda being dominant on the bike seen, I think these statement is not correct. Suzuki has been dominant in the 750 and 1000 class. The GSXR 1000 has been killing everything since it was introduced and I have seen them for $8900 new!! I have seen it post times as low as mid 9's at 145 ish. I have had everything from GSXR's to CBR's as race bikes and I have a favorite. My favorite is Yamaha's R6. Bike his big HP for a 600 and feels as nimble and small as a 250. I have ridden the new GSXR 1k on the track but the R6 is more fun. If they could get 115 RWHP out of a stock 600 and get the weight down to 325 lbs it would be the ultimate cycle. I am sure it will arrive in the next few years!!
