'Honda to unveil Brawn as new team boss'
Monday 12th November 2007

Former Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn is expected to be unveiled as Honda's new team boss later today.

Brawn has been out of Formula One for just under a year now after opting to take a sabbatical away from Ferrari and the sport as he considered his options for the future.

And although the was talk of him returning to Ferrari at the end of this year, rumours claimed that depended on whether or not Jean Todt remained at the helm of the Scuderia - a position Brawn wanted.

However, with there being little sign of Todt retiring, Brawn has reportedly agreed to take up the role of new Honda team boss, with his unveiling expected later today.

The Daily Telegraph reports that 'Honda will unveil the former Ferrari technical director, Ross Brawn, as team principal of their Formula One team today. The spectacular coup will see Nick Fry, who nominally held the role, continue in the post of chief executive.'

The arrival of Brawn, who is rated as one of the most sought after engineering gurus in F1, is likely to also put an end to Jenson Button's threat of leaving the team.

The newspaper continued saying that his 'appointment is seen by Fry and Honda as a critical step towards securing the World Championship for the first time as a constructor, as opposed to engine supplier, a role in which Honda previously enjoyed great success.'

It also alleged that Honda first approached the Englishman back in April but that he was 'unable to respond out of respect for his former employers in Italy, who had first call on his services.'

However, after talks with Ferrari broke down in October 'Fry's relentless pursuit throughout the summer eventually paid off when Brawn, who also attracted strong interest from Red Bull and Toyota, immediately confirmed his availability.

'The pair travelled to Japan earlier this month for talks with the Honda hierarchy in Tokyo. It is believed the deal was finally signed off in Japan last week.'

Honda, though, only told their drivers of Brawn's signing on Friday, opting to keep it a 'tight secret' until it was finalised.

Domenicali replaces Todt
Monday 12th November 2007

Just moments after Honda confirmed the signing of Ross Brawn, Ferrari have announced that Stefano Domenicali will replace Jean Todt.

The team revealed that sporting director Domenicali will take on the role of Director of the Gestione Sportiva as of January 1 2008. The position is currently held by Todt.

Other changes include technical director Mario Almondo stepping up into the role of operations director while Aldo Costa will become the new technical director.

Gilles Simon has been promoted to engine director.

Meanwhile it remains to be seen what role Todt will take at the team and whether he will stay on as the head of the Ferrari automobile company.

Now we are getting somewhere. This can only be great news.

I like the article where Button threatens to leave unless they put up some results. "I can't be bothered with working my nuts off and qualifying 14th any more. It's making me unhappy." We don't want you unhappy little boy now do we? What a cry baby. Leave then buddy. You have, and always will be overrated in my mind. You will never win a championship, probably never win another race.

Put Marco Andretti in the car, you go drive for Toyota or another one of the back marker teams you deserve to be with. As far as Barichello, don't even get me going on that clown.

Well, I need to get my coffee now to wake up. I just needed a reason to rant about Button after I read his interview a few days ago, and felt the news of Brawn coming aboard was the time to vent.

Deep breath, repeat......

Please Mr Christmas wish granter bring us good fortune, and even just one win this coming F1 season. Also take Button and put him somewhere with Fisichella so they can both disappear into F1 obscurity where they belong as ones that never materialized.

Back to the coffee and breathing, until we meet again or the doctor takes me away.

As much as I love Honda (had three civics, an Integra, two S2K's, bikes and a new TL), I will always cheer for Ferrari, even if they replaced Kimi with someone like Dale Jr. as their #1 driver... which i hope never happens.

But good for Honda... something good needs to happen and when it does, they might celebrate it with a new sports car!

"And the gates of heaven opened, a light shined through, and hope was restored to the promised land of Honda F1.

There was much rejoicing."

Amen

I can almost picture Honda returning to dominate F1 like in the 80's!!

I believe Honda has the engineering resources, some how they just can't hire the right people for to design their cars. Engine is one thing, Aerodynamic is another. With Ross Brown, he will put together the right group of people. If he stay at Honda for extended period of time like he did at Ferrari, Honda will win the championship.

Now is the the right question to ask if Button is as good as Nick Fry making him out to be once Honda get the car right. Maybe Alonso can join Honda next season in place of Ruben, since he can't be with Ferrari, and Renault is in hot water. Hmmmmm, interesting!!!

Re: We should probably be careful what we wish for?

Maybe Alonso can join Honda next season in place of Ruben,
Yeah, stranger things are happening everyday. The question is why was FA talking to Red Bull? Could be any of 4 reasons; money, challenge, Ross, Adrian. Honda's got 3 of those now.

I'd like to think that this year was the perfect storm in Fred's life and that things will be all sweetness and light with a different team. But somehow I don't think so.

Why all this hate? There has to be something HE did on the track that upsets you so much? When I saw him on Hockenheim last year he won the 6th place. That's not bad considering Massa, Schumi, Alonso etc were in front of him... With Ferrari having probably the best car by that time...

Button owns everyone on the rain. I believe in him. What's wrong with him complaining???? He won a GP last year so the potential is there! The results definetley have a lot to do with the car...

Perhaps something's wrong with his car or rest of the team and not his talent??

Next season should be interesting; Don't know where Alonso will be or if Button will leave the team.

If Honda doesn't do it any better next season I support Button to move on and unleash his talent elsewhere.

Do you have to ask? Just look at his user name... A great F1 champ with lots of ethical question mark on his record. Schumacher did set the fastest time from yesterday's "tractionless control" session. Maybe McLaren should ask him to fill the second seat. That will make the show even better!!!

Yeah, Button either has a chance or become like a good but not good enough driver. Look at the bright side of things, he is still young!!! Mansell and Hill didn't even win their F1 title till the end of their career, and both driven pertty much the best car through out their life time.

F1 Honda will prevail...
Then we won't be ashame with Honda and wear Honda's apparels like we used to in the early 90s. I will wear this next year in support of Honda new efforts...:)

Let's face it, if Ross can't save them, no one can. At least he can find and KEEP a good areo guy. Pretty sweet move for Honda. Looks like they are ready to spend some $$$$

All the top drivers are really pretty close if you look at qual session 2, (the fastest session). All lined up two by two most of the time, which shows who is more important, the car or the driver. With a few exceptions.

Just please, please, don't hire that whining, blackmailing, snitch, Alonzo. He may be fast, but he's not worth the baggage.

Historically (During the second phase of Honda F1), they will do everything they can to hire the right driver with strong financial incentive. I think Honda is going to be in the game in about two years. Once they get back to that top 3 spot, I think they have the ability to sign the right driver.

Encouraging news. However, IMHO they have a long, long way to go. I personally think that neither JB or RB are capable of winning multiple races and leading Honda to a championship.

Re: Wurz as test/3rd driver

This is good news. He'll be good for the team; kind of a Parker Johnstone; good engineer; aware; analytical; but too old (with shrinking cojones) to go wheel to wheel with the young studs.
