MaxJax garage lift

I've got a crush on this garage lift. It is a "take-down" model which allows you to keep your garage floor space and just pull it out when needed. It only raises the car 45" but I'm thinking that will be acceptable. You just work on your knees or from a creeper. Obviously not ideal, but for those with the basis two car garage, it sounds ideal. I'm having the mfgr verify the minimum 3 1/2" pad height. Street price $2000. Another forum did a group buy for $1500 a year ago, but they say they pissed off Danmar, the mrgr, and that another probably won't fly. Google Danmar Max Lift. There is a great jay leno video on the site.

There's a lot of threads on this system on garagejournals.com you may want to read through if you haven't already.

It has it's benefits and drawbacks. I'll just leave it at that.

I guess I"ll answer myself. I have read all the garage journal forum stuff and I can't find anything not to like about this unit, except of course it's limited height. As a retired engineer trusting only the anchor bolts is not a problem for me as long as you make certain to get the inserts installed 100% correctly. I would possibly upgrade them from what may come in the kit. It seems perfect for nsx engine work and for anyone with a 9 or 10 foot ceiling. With my 10 ft ceiling, I could only lift our minivan about 4 feet or so anyway. Since I"m not willing to accept banging my doors on permanent posts, it's either an in-ground unit which I ball park at arround 10K installed vs this maxjax compromise. I"m going to see if I can get the last group buy price of $1800 delivered. ps- for those that don't trust this unit, one could easily add a very small removable stiffening bar accross the uprights as a fail-safe. Many two post lifts of course have a bar tying together to tops which adds a fail-safe, buy many two post units just rely totally on the AB's.

My garage ceiling is a few inches short of 10' high. I went with a 4-post storage lift, which I special ordered for 9' (width) between the posts to match my 9' wide garage doors.

This picture was taken just before I finished trimming the metal bracing for the garage door tracks, so ignore that extra long piece of angle-iron. I've had the lift 10 years now, and it has served me well. I use it for servicing as well as for storage.

The portability of MaxJax sounds good, but I bet having to put it up & tear it down each time its needed gets old quickly. I have four cars, so mine gets a lot of use.

I bought the MaxJax lift from Danmar and I like it. I used it to change a clutch. It would be good for dropping the motor. I wished I had bought it years ago. There were a few minor issues I will list below:
The quick disconnect oil couplers leaked and they sent replacements.
The hydraulic cylinder hit a steel bar at the top and broke it. They send new improved top bars.
One side goes up faster than the other by about 2 inches. No solution other than that I lower the lift onto the steel support bars at half way to level both sides before raising the car to the top.
The lift only has 2 working heights. Half way and fully up. It would be possible to drill some additional holes for intermediate working heights.

Ordered the maxjax for $1900 delivered (to hub only). Couldn't get group buy price. I'll post after install. I'll leave the wall side post permanantly in place.
