to me a few weeks ago that i see the film (not movie, but F-I-L-M <in our family, we pronounce these as "fillums">), "Good Night, and Good Luck" - the film about Edward R. Murrow, the Mc Carthy witch hunts and CBS.

THANKS VERY MUCH, MARK - it was a very well crafted film, very thought provoking and a reminder of a time long gone. (at times not too far distant, though)

(fwiw) i heartily recommend "Good Night, and Good Luck" to all who are interested in a finely crafted film.

thanks again, mark - you were dead on.

(btw, during the past 9 days, my wife and i have also seen: prime, the squid and the whale, and Shopgirl. Shopgirl was wonderful, prime was "ok" and squid was not to my liking, though critics rave about it)

>>i see the film (not movie, but F-I-L-M ),

Why is that - you still living in 1960? If you're trying to be "accurate" why don't you refer to these items as talkies, or even moving daguerotypes?

And what do you call it when the images your are watching have been captured and edited on digital media, then played back from a server?

I guess your "mechanician" still rides in the passenger seat of your horseless carriage too?

actually, it refers to the difference between a **movie** (that would the great majority of **CRAP** that is produced and the mindless public lines up for week after week) and quality work being created.

having said this, i realize such a distinction may be lost on the majority of the movie-going public.

So what else does Mark Basch recommend? ;)
Well, since you asked, and this thread IS about FIlm, I saw Capote this weekend and I absolutely loved it. It is an excellant film on a subject sure to delight anybody with interests in American Culture and Literature, or just plain outstanding filmaking. Don't miss this one.

So you're finally going to get the SC off your garage floor and do something productive with it? I thought we were going to have to revoke your "cool" card.

ok, well... (here comes the 12 step program thing...)

my name is hal and i'm... um, i'm uncool.

i've weenied out and decided to keep the car stock... it's just such a good example of an original car that i can't put the blower on. you'll have to call mb, he's already yanked my card (it was temporary, anyway).

the next step in the 12 step thing will happen after thanksgiving.

<sigh>

LOL... Didnt you know, at NSXPO Mark showed us the tattoo of 'DUDE' on his back. It was sweet. :p :D

For those into unusual films & documentaries, i just watched a documentary called "Hiroshima - The Humanity and the Horror". They interview the bomb crew and Japanese victims - some who were only 250meters from the center & survived. They filmed recreated scenes leading up to the events of Hiroshima. Very sobering. Well worth watching if you come across it.

DUDE- That documentary was on PBS here a month or so ago. You're right, it was VERY sobering, and very well made. Oh No- could it be we like the same things?

Umm... I kinda like the NSX... what about you? :p :D

Another good film I saw recently was "Fog of War - Eleven Lessons from the Life of Robert S McNamara". It's a real life Tom Clancy novel. Do you have any other film recommendations since you're "the man" of this thread? :) I've already ordered the "Dude, where's my car?" DVD based on your recommendation. :D

CarGuy: is that this film, or another?

Thats the one, you won't regret watching it.

Neo- Our PBS systems must share the same distributors! That show was also on here a few weeks ago and it was incredible. Especially to someone who lived thru that period as a young man.
Now, I don't want to blow my tough guy status here, but you have to see Pride and Prejudice. I'm sure its no suprise that (my) Jane is a huge Austen
fan and we have seen every production of this and all other Jane Austen novels
In this versions, England, and the English are real. They look like they don't shave or shower every day. Their clothes look like they came from previous family members instead of from central costume. The acting is superb and the cinematography is a feast for the eyes.

And, I kinda like the NSX too

Cheers,
Mark
