From ACR Larry's post on the Viperclub forums:

Open Track Racing is holding a charity event on March 12th at the Willow Springs big track for the Orangewood's Children Foundation. The cost to you is $125. For that you get a ton of track time, chicken and steak lunch, and a sweatshirt commemorating the event. Come out and visit the kids from the foundation. Got to OPEN TRACK RACING <http://www.opentrackracing.com> and click on "events" for details.

How was the track event? Was it fun running with some of the Viperclub gang?

Finally got mine out this week after winter hibernation - now they're calling for more snow tomorrow!

As usual Kailo and Patti ran a perfect event and, again as usual the people were terrific, Marc and I both had a horrible day on track though....

Marc shredded a brand new Kuhmo after about 5 laps and I went off in T9 at over 100

I had my car set up for the Cal Coastal Autocross with lots of grip up front and loose in back and it took me most of the morning to get it back to track settings.

By the afternoon the track was getting too hot and I was too tired. I think my fastest of the day was 1:37 and Marc turned a 1:36 before he ate his tire. Marc was hooked up for sure and easily had some low 30's in him if his tire would have held out.

Now, The fun stuff.... Mike and Sandy Davis, Owners of the Trans Am Team that Borris Said drives for came with one of their Trans Am Mustangs, a vintage GT40, and a vintage AC Cobra. They were very gracious and spent a lot of time talking, answering questions and even giving thrill rides to a few lucky souls.

More and More there are several GT2 and 3 Porsche Cup cars as well as other race cars showing up at these events and the Red group is getting darn FAST...There were even people in the Blue (intermediate) group running 34's.

Even with our bad luck we had a awsome day.

Dunno, we're guessing it was just a defective tire. It was brand new purchased with a heat cycle on it. Marc's talking to Kuhmo about a replacement now.

I really think we may both go to the Hoosiers next.

It seems as though the outer layer of rubber came apart from the carcass. I was running brand new 255/40/17 Victoracer's, pre-heatcycled from the Tire Rack. After about 4-5 laps, the car started getting a bit loose. After 6-7 laps, it was like ice skating back there!! Craig was following me at that point, and can tell you about how wild a ride it was!

Anyway, here is the tire:

To Kumho's and the Tire Rack's credit, once I emailed them the picture, they promptly sent me a new, heat cycled tire as a replacement. This was my first time w/ the Kumhos, and I think they are good tires, Ill just have to assume that I got a rare defect this time. The replacement is all set to go now, and im looking forward to running them at the next event.

Here is the video of me chasing Craig that day (while the car was still handling properly)
