They are designed for the drivers side. Mine are on the drivers side as well. I think there is a pocket on the back of the passenger seat already.
Yes there is drilling. You need to mount the bracket for the top bag. The top one can be removed as it just hangs on the bracket. The bottom map pocket is fixed. These are mounted to the rear cover that us really just vinyl covered hardboard. Not real sturdy as the hardboard doesn't have much support. Instructions are in Japanese but I believe there are pictures. Pretty straight forward. If you need more, I can take some pictures of mine mounted.
Let me know.

I took my driver's side back panel off, removed the pass. side map pocket and transferred it to the drivers side panel, and reinstalled it behind the drivers seat.
Then I installed the OEM map bag behind the pass seat like it would be in Japan.
Let me know if you want pics.

thanks for the replies..would love to see photos of both and some pearls on how to remove the trim without ruining anything

Removing the trim and panels from behind the seats is covered in the shop manual which you can download from the Wiki if you don't have it already.
Here's some pics of my installation.
The map bag is behind the pass seat as it is in Japan.
If you want this setup you need to move the original pass side map pocket to the drivers side as shown.
Requires removing both back panels.
Remove the staples/glue from the original pass side map pocket and re-staple/glue to the drivers back panel.
Then install the JDM bag on the pass side back panel using the supplied template for the hanger mounts.

that looks amazing and i want to try it...so what i am gathering is in order to have it on the passenger side...i have to take the panel that sits behind drivers side now and swap it with same panel on the passenger side because the driver side has the prep for the map bags...remove the staples/glue from orig pass side map pocket?? i dont understand that and the glue and satples scares me lol....also i looked in wiki for the removal of trim panels and could not find it...any thoughts...thanks

My install was a few years back and memory is a bit foggy so bear with me.
I seem to remember that the back panels were not interchangeable otherwise I would have flipped them without having to take the oem map pocket off the pass side panel and reinstall it on the drivers side back panel. If you check an online parts fiche you'll see each back panel has a different part number.

In any event why don't you pop the large horizontal trim piece off and remove both back panels to see if they'll swap.
It would less time to check than write an email.

If they swap then you only have to install the JDM map bag
If they don't swap you'll see clearly what you have to do to move the small map pocket to the driver's side.
Don't worry about the glue/staple thing, it's a minor job if you chose to do it.

Or you could keep things simple and put the JDM bag behind your driver's seat and be done with it.

The nice thing about having the JDM bag behind the pass seat is you can reach back and take stuff out, at a stop light for example, instead of having to get out, move your driver's seat up and access it that way.

Send us a pic when you're done
Are the map bags no longer available?

i am not sure if they are directly available from honda/acura..i know sos doesnt list them as available anymore...thee is a guy on prime who gets typer stuff directly from overseas maybe he could obtain..otherwise from infrequent offerings on prime and ebay (where i found mine)..wish me luck with install

just an update...it was not as easy as anticipated...first for what ever reason the two panels behind the seats are different sizes...so when i went to swap the material from passenger side to the driver side (so i can install the map bags on passenger side to reach while) the material would not fit securely around to be secured to the board....with that being said i brought to upholsterer who re-wrapped them new with material and new foam...came out perfect...then went to re-install the boards back into fire wall and with the bags not on pasenger side the clips were to weak....replaced the clips with heavier ones and now all good...nice modification but would rethink in the future...of course once all back together my AC control unit on the fritz...off to brian k ....this done for a car that i drive less than 200 miles per year...go figure

Am I reading you correctly that you removed the vinyl material from the fiberboard panels?

The less you drive the NSX, the more problems you will have. Fluids, gasses and electrons need to flow to properly lubricate and stimulate the related components. Imagine what would happen to you if you didn't didn't get out of bed except for 2 days a year. The NSX has a soul and should be treated as such. Only driving 200 miles per year borders on neglect.

+1 agree with HUGH lay in bed for 6 months then see if you can get up and run 2 miles without water.

or

lay in bed for 1 year not even to get up and sh_t the years worth of sh_t will have glued you to the bed... sure someone can fork lift you off the bed but then stand up and try to walk to the store to get some ice cold beer

Anything you and Shawn care to add about the map bag, or do you just want to make fun of an owner's problem?

Excuse me Mr. Sensitive. If your reading comprehension skills were on par with a 7th grader you would have realized that Shawn and I went off on a tangent relating to the extremely little use of the car and how that affects reliability. We weren't making fun of his map bag issue. However just to make you happy, here is a link to a PDF file with the map bag installation instructions in English.
