Malfunction indicator flashed today.

Shortly after I began driving the yellow malfunction indicator lamp (next to the red low oil pressure warning light) began flashing for about 30 seconds then went out and didn't come on again.

I think this has someting to do with the emission controls. Its the first time I've ever seen it. Does this ever happen once in a while, or is it a red flag that I should take the car and have it checked? btw. its an 01 and it has a tubi exhaust which has been installed for over a year.

In my '03, I sometimes have a problem with che EC light when the car is very cold. When it is cold, revving past a certain RPM will trigger the light.

well.. it was cold out and the engine was not warm yet. I had driven about a mile. I revved it to about 5K

is the EC light the same as my malfunction light?

It's the light on the top-left on the guage cluster that looks like an engine.
