Just got my '95 NSX-T (one month ago).....I LOVE IT!!!

The owner is a car collector (Lambos, Vipers, etc). It only has 17,000 miles on it. The only maintenance done was oil changes every 3000 miles/annually, and brake fluid change. Here's my questions:

Should I change the coolant?
Trans fluid?
Timing belt?
Adjust the valves?
Spark plugs?

I live in DuPage County, IL. I called Woodfield Acura to see if they work on NSXes. I was told that several members have their cars done there.

Last, I put on a K & N air filter. I hear a high-pitched noise on partial acceleration. Anyone else have this problem.

I appreciate any and all help. I am primarily concerned eith doing what's best for my machine, since it's 8 years old, but VERY low miles.

I would change the fluids (coolant and transmission fluid), absolutely. Fluids deteriorate over time.

You mentioned brake fluid being done. Brake fluid should be changed every 30K miles or 2 years, whichever comes first. The time recommendation is particularly important with brake fluid, because it absorbs moisture over time, making it less effective. The two-year interval is an absolute maximum. If it hasn't been changed in the past two years, you should definitely get it changed at this time.

You will hear varying opinions about the timing belt. Right now you are at 17K miles and 8 years. Acura's recommendation is 90K miles or 6 years, whichever comes first. So you haven't hit the miles yet, but the time is two years past their time recommendation. The question becomes, how far past their time recommendation are you willing to go?

I would definitely have the valves adjusted. This is recommended for 15K miles or 1 year, and you are well past the recommendations for both mileage and time.

Spark plugs are recommended for 60K miles or 6 years, whichever comes first. Some people say that they don't deteriorate with time, only with mileage; on the other hand, Acura does include time in their recommendation (but they stretch the time to 6 years, rather than 4 years like their other 60K recommendations). Your decision.

Yes, Woodfield Acura does more NSX service than any other of the nine Chicago-area dealers. Highly recommended.

This is normal with the K&N air filter.

Thanx for your help, Ken. The timing belt/water pump combo runs $1425 at Woodfield Acura...YIKES!

Plugs run $196 installed, but I was told they cost $21 each to purchase. Any cheap places to buy 'em in our area? I think I will be doing them myself.

I bought my spark plugs from advance auto parts..

9.99 each

Good thing you only have to do it once every 6 years or so, huh? ;)

Once you start going there, they'll send you coupons for 10 percent off scheduled maintenance, which this is. They might even give it to you if you ask nicely. Or, they might not.

The other dealer in Chicagoland that does a lot of NSX service, Pauly Acura, probably charges slightly more, based on my experience. If you're willing to drive 100 miles, you can save a bit by going to Acura of Brookfield (Milwaukee), which also is excellent for NSX service.

Join the NSX Club of America and use your club member discount with one of the participating dealers like Goodson Acura in Dallas or Niello Acura in Sacramento, who offer great prices on OEM parts.
