Ok- so I took Prime's advice and replaced the Main Relay, just plugged it in and first try- VVRROOOOOMMM car started right up.

let it idle, turned it off and on a few times, no issues.

took it for a short spin, no issues.

However....
If i am on the gas, even a little say slow coast at low speed, RPM is perfect. when I let off the gas, RPM drops to almost 0, hovers there for about 1 second, then returns to 700-800 give or take.

If I am on the throttle, then remove my foot and put the car in neutral, immediately the RPM drops so fast that the car DOES shut off again.

However, unlike the Main relay problem, i can put the car in gear and restart it if i need to.

the car is stil throwing a CEL for O2 sensor... can this cause this problem?
I will order the O2 tonight as I see its in another thread, but what else if anything could be causing this idle issue

thanks in advance

Just speaking from experience I have found the O2 sensors can make the car act a little funny.

I had all sorts of idling issues and for the life of me could not figure it out. I did get CEL codes from time to time on the O2 sensors. I would reset and they would not come back for a week maybe 2.

I finally bit the bullet and just replaced the O2 sensors and all my idle issues and CEL codes went away.

I am not saying that this will fix your problem, however it did fix mine.

Good luck!

when you say your car jumps at idle is your A/C on? just wondering

try it with the A/C off and see what happens.

I had this issue as well, I cleaned the throttle body and all was good....

Great ideas but-
I have cleaned the throttle body pretty thoroughly, as far as i could get in there, did not remove it though

I did have the A/C off in driving it and windows down.

I do have a CEL for O2 (P0141) and ive ordered the sensor just not in yet.....

anything else?

you may need to consult the manual but I think there is an ecu reset proccess that needs to be done so the car will idle normaly ..Larry B told me he did some manuevers to my car to resolve exactly the issue you are having....fwiw I have a 96 ecu and a 2000 engine.

This spring I had the major service performed on my 95, tbelt, wpump, hoses, seals, etc plus the main relay. After the job I had the same issue, on throttle release the rpm would drop almost to the point of stalling and then bounce back up to normal. Kept on driving the car for a few days and it slowly went away.

I have read posts about "idle learning"?
