Lugs and cats

I recently installed 16x7 and 17x8.5 Volk TE37's on my NSX and was wondering if I will have a problem using the factory lug nuts (from 2000 NSX)? I did not like the shape of the lug nuts that came with the Volks, ok in the back but looked too big in the front, so I am using the factory lugs on the front and the Volk supplied lugs on the rear.

I also just installed an ARC titanium cat back exhaust and think I want to go with the cat replacement pipes. Will I have a problem with the O2 sensors? Where are they located? I was told that the lower temperature level created by removing the cats could effect the OBDII readings and consequently other relevant engine operations.

Thank you.

Robert,

The stock wheels have a ball-shaped (acorn?) seating surface. In other words, the tapered part of the lug nut that mates with the wheel is convex on the lug nut and concave on the wheel itself, so they will mate and hold the wheel on the entire area of the seating surface.

Most aftermarket wheels have a conical seating surface. The tapered cone surface is linear, neither convex nor concave. They should come with matching lug nuts.

It is important to use the lug nuts that are designed for the wheels. Otherwise, instead of the entire area of the lug nut flush against the seating surface, only a circle is in contact with the wheel, and that is likely to wear quickly and loosen the lug nuts.
