Lubed PW cables and slides...still slow

My Power windows were a bit slow. I read all the threads about lubing the cables and what not.
So I took apart the door. I pulled everything out and cleaned it and relubed. I put it back together. The window seemed to go up a little quicker...however nothing like I expected it to. Could the motor be going bad?
Is the window just slow in general for the NSX? Comparing it to my other vehicles (daily drivers) it's about half the speed.

Anything I've missed?

I did realign it properly, so that's not the issue. The motor sounds like it's straining when the window's going up...

newby,

Have you removed the two window tracks from the door?

You need to remove the front and rear sash (see the service manual), then remove the two window rails from the door(after you take the glass out). Be very careful to follow the manual, and remember to count turns when you remove the adjustment bolts and mark them as descibed. If the window motor is still "straining" after it is all cleaned and regreased, then an alignment of the rails may be needed.

I would recommend returning EVERY adjustment bolt back exactly where it was during the disassembly. This adjustment is a PITA, especially if you are starting from "nowhere" on the adjustment.

If you have removed the rails previously (not clear from your pics) you may have to just adjust them. I would go out on the road first and check for wind noise)glass too outward, then watch the glass rise and see if it is fighting the seal(glass too inward). Either way may cause slowness of the window.

Thanks Larry

I did remove the window slides and regreased them. I did my best to put everything back the same as it was...but I'll recheck everything. I see in the manual there is a detailed area on how to realign the windows. I'll have to go through that procedure and see if it makes a difference. I know my window is still a little short (should probably be up another 1/8 of an inch to seal correctly) So while I'm doing that adjustment...I'll check everything else.

The motor ran fine when I had it out of the car. But when there was strain in it...it was much slower.

I've just been busy these last couple days....I'll work on it tomorrow.

rear easy way to align the window....

thread all the adj. bolt all the way so that they are flush coming out the back of the track. put the nuts on the botls and the window pads at the top of the door. tighten the very front top nut to a little past finger tight. roll the window down, back out the top bolts, front and rear till they hit the door metal, tighten the nuts, roll up window and do the same with the lower nuts/botls. roll up and down a few times double checking it all. 99% of the time its spot on in 2 minutes

I got everything realigned and it works great. Still a bit slow, however the window in only running on battery juice because the car is stored (and won't be started ) until spring. So we'll see if it's improved when I can try it with the car running.

For the most part, the fun was taking the door apart to see how everything works. It'll be easier to fix or replace something if need be (down the road)

thanks for the help guys

The rubber guides at both ends of the door grip the window tightly and are a source of friction. Get a can of silicone lubricant, lower the window all the way and spray inside those suckers. While you're at it apply a bead of spray to the insides of the rubber strip lining the top of the door. End of problem!

i have had no luck in increasing the rate of travel either.
also, (not to hijack the thread) but after replacing the drivers regulator, i have a pretty loud popping sound when activating the switch up or down. it just happens right when the button is engaged. the window fixit thingies are current. the regulator from a 97, 15k.
maybe guides? misalignment? bad regulator?

Hugh....thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try.

Pixlehaus.... have you had the door apart to see where this is coming from? I haven't (yet) had this problem but the PW set up is pretty simple so you should be able to pinpoint the problem with the door apart....

Newby, you didn't by chance take enough pics to do a do-it-yourself write up? I just started a thread looking for something like this.

Sorry buddy.... I just followed this site on how to take the door panals off. From there it was pretty easy to take apart the internals of the door. Just remember to mark the bolts so you can reallign it to factory specs.....that was my only problem.

Here's a quick list from this link on taking apart the door....hope that helps..
http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/Troubleshooting/windows.htm

Pull the door panel (per the manual.)
Pull off the speaker enclosure - to get it out of the way.
Carefully (without ripping) pull back the plastic liner. Peel from the outer edge back toward the hinged side of the door. About half way will do and just stick it on itself so it stays out of the way.
With one hand, lift up the window so you can reach in the big hole and undo (1 of 2)10mm bolts from the window.
Position window (up and down) to stick an extension in the small 1.5" hole and get at second 10mm bolt.
Lift the window all the way up and put a strip of 2" x length of window masking tape along outside edge of window and body. This will hold the window up out of your way.
Take off the (4) 10mm bolts holding the regulator "guide bar" in place. (I marked them first to get them back to the same position.)
Undo plastic clip that hold cables up.
Loosen 3 10mm bolts holding motor.
Remove assembly.
Install is reverse of these steps.

Anybody researching on how to rebuild the regulator motors?

I suspect they are getting tired and causing the "slowness".

Any motor experts out there?

Drew
