I have hieght adjustable dampers on my car. I have only lowered it .5" so far. I had a play on the weekend, and lowered one side another .5", but as you all know the camber on the rear starts to seem excessive.

Theory states that the more camber the better, but for those of you that have lowered, and have what looks like excessive camber does it improve the handling?

I don't do 'mods' for looks, just performance at the track. So I'm really only after answers from the track junkies.

I’m not sure that the “more camber the better” theory is one I’ve heard. I’ve heard that the right camber is better but it’s not necessarily “more” in all circumstances. The right camber really depends on about 50 variables including track, driver, tires, tire psi, suspension setup, etc. It is helpful sometimes to take tire temps to see how the tire is heating across the tread, it sometimes is recommended that the inside temps be a bit higher than the outside, which indicates a possible proper camber setup. Keep in mind that increased negative camber reduces straight-line stability, especially under breaking conditions in the wet. Also keep in mind that increased negative camber leads to more tire wear during straight-line driving. What is your current camber? And what does it measure when you lower it another .5”? For a race-only setup, I’ve seen -5 degrees, but that is really severe in my book and should be left to a car that doesn’t see the street. I think my car is around -2.5 degrees in the rear lowered 7/8” and it seems to behave quite well on the street as well as the track.

Thanks. The 'more camber the better' was a generalistion quote from the book 'race car suspension' by Staniforth.

My camber would of been standard before the suspension was changed, and I haven't had it adjusted after. Did you have to adjust it to get it to -2.5deg? Did you add neg camber to get to that or reduce it, once the rear was lowered?

I'm just trying to get some figures before I do take it to a shop and get it aligned.
