Lowering my NSX...

I just recently leased a brand new 03' NSX from Niello Acura - about 5 weeks ago. Anyways, I had a few questions frlom all you pros about lowering my NSX...

I have been driving my 01 IS300 which I am now trying to sell.. After about the first 2 months of driving my IS300, I purchased and had H&R Stage II springs installed. I was and still am VERY happy with the feeling and ride height of the H&R's.... I believe they are very high quality... However, as all of you know, you will have to drive MUCH more careful, be super paranoid, especially on dips, bumps, potholes, and driveways... after a few years, it does some pretty descent damage to the underside of your car..

Anyways, it is SOOOOOO tempting to have the NSX lowered.. NOT for better handling or cornering (It feels pretty much perfect in stock form in my opinion.. ) But I would LOVE to get rid of that little wheel well gap.. A local shop offered me $450 for the purchase and labor of the H&R spring set on my NSX which lowers the NSX about 1.5" all around which is perfect by me.

Now, I would like to know the general opinion of all the members with the lowered NSX's... Are there other springs out there better OR is there a better way to go alltogether?

Raising the car up on a jack, going up driveways, potholes, dips, and bumps will be HELL! Also, uneven tire wear and alignment frequently...

I Think it would be really nice to paint the wheels a gunmetal finish to match the lowered stance and mettalic silver finish.

Please let me know what you all think and if its worth all the headache!

Thanks in advance!

I don't know. It reallty depends on where you live and where you go with your car. Mine has the WW kit and I did not lower the car. Check my avatar and you'll know how low the car is. I'm currently planning on getting 17/18 rims without changing my suspension setup (to raise about half an inch) to make my car more civilized for all the crappy roads and inclines in Mass.

If the look is really what you after, you just have to be more careful. Personally, with lower springs it's not too bad. I have the Comptech springs which I think it lowers more than the H&R.

Do you have any pictures by any chance?? I have Neuspeed springs on my NSX and I thought the Neuspeeds were the lowest springs made for the NSX. I have half a finger gap in front and maybe 3/4's a finger gap in the rear. I believe the Neuspeed springs lower the car about 2 inches. I also have a set of Eibach springs I'm thinking about switching to. Just to get more miles out of the back tires....

$450 seems like a great price for springs including install labour - remember to get an alignment done at a quality shop afterwards though! Eibachs are less agressive than H & R & may be better choice, especially if you are concerend about going too low. With a full coil-over replacement you can adjust the height to whatever you like - much more $$$$ of course.

One thing to consider since you're leasing - you're going to have to return the car to stock at the end of the lease so keep the original parts - I would also suggest not painting the wheels for the same reason - get after-market wheels by all means, but keep the OEM's.

I am a little low......ered...

One of the previous owners of my car installed H & R springs, and different shocks, lowering it 1.5 inches.
I think it looks better lowered, but it is a challenge dealing with driveways, speed bumps, potholes, and all sorts of other flotsome and jetsome out on the road. In the 10 months that I have had it, I have gone through 3 front bras because of inadvertant scrapes on driveways.
Not to mention that it is even harder to get in and out of....
(not that I am an old fart or anything like that.... really....;) ).
It has altered the geometry of the suspension, and I notice that with the accelerated rear tire wear. Or maybe that was caused by the two autocrosses....four canyon runs..... hmmmm....
All in all, in spite of the above mentioned disadvantaged, I do like the way it looks and handles.
