lost keys

vin with ownership proof

write the vin down and take it to the dealership WITH PROOF OF OWNERSHIP, ie...insurance card/bill/papers, title, plate registration, ANYTHING THAT SHOWS DEFINITE PROOF that it belongs to you. They can cut ya' one on the spot, but may be some $$$

MOST IMPORTANT BRING PROOF OF DEFINITE OWNERSHIP...hell even get a police report that your locked out of your car in YOUR driveway without the key

That will only get you into the car. It's a 98, which has the immobilizer. You don't have the valet key???
The only way is to have the car towed to the dealer and have a new key programmed.

They can't program one with the VIN? I'm curious, 'cause I have a '91 that doesn't have that fancy stuff.

The immobilizer anti-theft system with coded key using an electronic transponder was added in 1997 as noted in the FAQ here. That fancy stuff prevents someone from stealing your car

That I understand. I was just surprised that the dealer can't program the key without the car.

That would defeat the purpose of the system. Any key cut correctly will work in your car. With the 97+, only programmed keys will start the car. Doors and trunk will still open though. I locked my keys in my trunk at NSXPO and did the dealer/vin thing to gain access.

The dealer can program a key with the vin# I had a new key made for my 97. I think it cost about $35.00 They don't have to have the car!

actually, I got a guy in my parts dept that can cut illco T5 keys that will work without having the car at the dealership. Obviously, if this get out i'll deny it. Just kidding, but seriously it can be done.
