Loose steering column

Hi All-
Has anyone experienced a loose steering column, say 2-3 mm lateral movement? I assume this occurs when people try to push themselves out of the car? Is it a sigh of a far bigger problem or just a tightening issue at the base? Also, my climate control button labeled "auto" keeps spinning around freely...??? Climate control works though.
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

There are a couple bolts and pins that are likely loose in your car. I will look into this.

As far as the loose button goes, this is a common problem. You can see the repair procedure on our website under SoS Resource > DIYs. You can also replace the buttons while you're at it if they are worn for about $20/ea at the dealer.

Bare with me not having one apart in front of me. The steering column is secured with 2 bolts and 2 nuts on studs. The column assembly seats into 2 v-shaped channels in front of the column, which is apart of the impact absorbing design. Your problem may be that the column is not seated properly in these channels. Loosen the nuts and bolts for the column, and pull the column to you to get the column to seat in these channels properly. Tighten the bolts in sequence gradually. Make sure to have the shop manual with you to check torque specs and required steps.

Cheers,
