Greetings!

I am currently a proud owner of 1991 3000GT VR-4 and looking to purchase a 1991 or 1992 NSX with the lowest mileage (25k-35k miles) I can get.

As my understanding, there are some common transmission problems (snap ring???) on the earlier productions. And this can only be tracked by the transmission numbers instead of VIN. Is this true? What do I need to do to verify that the car that I will get does not fall into this?

Are there any other common problems? What should I expect? I'm not an expert, but I do some minor repair and maintenance on my cars. I really appreciate any inputs and advices of what to look when I test drive the car.

Is the maintenance cost for this car really high? How much does a typical timing job/water pump job cost?

Thank you so much for any inputs!

Regards

The answers to your questions can be found in the NSX FAQ (answers to Frequently Asked Questions), which is located at http://www.nsxprime.com/toc.htm

As my understanding, there are some common transmission problems (snap ring???) on the earlier productions.

This problem affected the '92 cars and the very start of the '93 cars, but only the very end of the '91 production, and over 80 percent of the first-year cars were unaffected.

And this can only be tracked by the transmission numbers instead of VIN. Is this true? What do I need to do to verify that the car that I will get does not fall into this?

Under the "Troubleshooting" heading, look at the section called "Transmission (incl Snap Ring)".

Are there any other common problems?

Window regulators on the '91-92, which are preventable with an inexpensive fix. Look at the "Power Windows" section under the "Troubleshooting" heading.

Is the maintenance cost for this car really high?

No.

How much does a typical timing job/water pump job cost?

Under the "Maintenance" heading, look at the section called "Costs".

there was a similar post to yours made by hypeelite just last week, I am in the same boat as you, looking for a 91-94- but I've learned that higher miles are OK as long as the car is taken care of, even a 91.
