Looking to move after Winter

I know winter isn't even here yet but I've been thinking awhile now and this seems to be the right time to do so...

Many things in my life have turned upside down and I think I need to get away for a little and experience something and someplace different. I'm no longer in school and I have no roots but my parents here anymore.

I'm looking for a little help though. I need some feedback on cool areas in Florida, but not Miami and what not. I don't think I'd like the people there. They seem to stuck up and fake. Those are the people I'm trying to get away from. I need a spot that has a pretty good restaurant scene since I'm a restaurant server and that's how I make my money. I know most Nsx prime members have money so this is a perfect spot to ask. Right now I work at a spot called "Table 31". It started out as a steakhouse co-owned by George Pierre and Chris Scarduzio. Pierre is no longer in the picture and it's now Italian. My check average per person there is about 70 per person which is on a good night, and 55 on a bad night. If anyone in the industry knows that means I need to serve 25-30 people each night to make 200 with a tip out of 25% of my tips.

I know Philadelphia has a pretty good dining scene, I've worked for some of the best now included Joe Garcas, Chip Roman, a couple Stephen Starr restaurants, and now Pierre and Scarduzio.

I just want to live somewheres different right now. I would need a spot to stay as well... I guess that's what I'm asking here is that if someone has an extra room and doesn't mind a down to earth dude renting out a spare bedroom then that's cool.

Of course I'd need to talk with you about details but my main concern is to find a job, find a spot to stay, and of course bring my Nsx down as well.

California sucks. Moved away and never looked back. If you want to spend 99.9% of your income on mortgage/taxes/rent, then by all means, move to CA.

Tampa/St. Pete? Sure...if you plan on being asleep by 10p and waiting tables for geezers. ZZzzzzz....

If you want to be in an upscale FL restaurant that's not in Miami/South Beach, your next best best is the "Las Olas" area of Ft. Lauderdale. I know a few owner's there. No promises as to a job, but I can introduce you.

PM me your e-mail address if you need more info.

I think you would like the Orlando area. Lots of high end restaurants particularly in downtown Winter Park, Restaurant Row (Dr. Phillips area), and downtown. We eat out a fair amount and have never run out of places to try out.

You may, however, want to factor in the current recession where high end restaurants in general have not fared well. Although the idea of moving to a new place may be exciting, the same problems will exist anytime money is short.

On the plus side we have a very active group of NSX owners here!

The biggest $$ for you are either going to be in Dade County - Coral Gables, North Miami Beach, South Beach. Broward County - Aventura, Ft Lauderdale either the beach or Las Olas. Palm Beach County - Boca Mizner Park area or West Palm has some serious stuff or as someone else suggested possibly Orlando - I'm not as familiar but I vacation up there with the family.

I'm a wine collector so I frequent some of the types of restaurants you'd probably want to work at.....and if I were you I'd take a visit down here and hit the scene in Dade, Broward and Palm Beach. Don't rule out Miami unless you've been there and have seen it first hand. I've never been down there and felt like people weren't nice or fun to hang out with.....In South Beach there is an ABUNDANCE or high end really nice restaurants.

Best of Luck!

Then ur not making enough $$$$.

Perhaps you should reconsider your career and income source.

FL is flat chested.

When I was in Orlando, it was humid and at the airport there was a Mountain Bike magazine. I started to LOL.......

My 2 cents.

Destin Florida. The Panhandle. The Emerald Coast. Snow white beaches. Beauitful Gulf Coast. Sometimes forgotten by the Florida Tourist Commission by leaving the Panhandle OFF the state map.....

Destin is called the World's Luckiest Fishing Village. If you are looking for the best vacation accommodations or lodging, events and activities, restaurants, attractions, shopping, deep sea fishing charter boats, golf courses, water sports, and overall excitement for your next Destin vacation; the real estate, utility, school, and general information you need to relocate; or simply to escape from it all, we can get you here. Then you will understand why we are proud to welcome you to our coastal community. Enjoy your visit, or welcome to your new home!...... from the Chamber of Commerce.

Destin is also known as becoming a minature Myrtle Beach SC travel destination. They have some upscale seafood/steak restaurants. I have not worked in that industry so more research is needed on your part. Benefit about this part of Florida is the ability to drive to other states quicker, without having to put 400 to 600 driving miles in before getting out of the state. Evacuation from Hurricanes is much quicker and since 1993 when I lived there for three years thru this year, I can only remember 3 hurricanes hitting the area, all with CAT 2 or less. To the east of Destin is Sandestin and inbetween there is nothing but upscale growth.

Just north about 8 miles away is Eglin AFB. About 15 miles west is Hurlburt Field. Both have about 5000 military personnel which means alot of single airmen looking for lodging and people to share the rent with. Need to check the classifieds and Craigs List.

I lived in the area 3 years. The only negative thing coming to mind is Highway 98. When you look at the map, the only connection to Ft Walton Beach is that highway... 4 lanes, however, if the water rises from a hurricane and take the road out, it would be a week or so before it would be repaired, depending on damage. The alternative then is a 6 lane bridge about 4 miles east of Destin that goes over the back bay. Then up and around to that area.

From all my military travels and assignments, its my favorite place. Nothing like watching the sunset from AJ's on a Sunday afternoon.

Since I own several businesses in the panhandle, including a restaurant, thanks  BUT...if he's in the restaurant industry and looking to make $$$ he needs to look in SoFla. The panhandle BOOMS from March-October and then falls off a cliff from Nov-Feb. There are a LOT more high end money making machines down South.

 And this helps the OP how? So you're generalizing Florida by that stupid comment? It's obvious you know a lot about your zip code, stick to that unless you actually have real life experience that will HELP the OP. This crap is childish and you seem to be ok with it? Were you picked on as a kid and you just want to get back at the world by picking stupid internet fights?

Do you realize that with each post you post on this site you further alienate yourself and make yourself look like a complete fool and ahole? True friends (which this site helps to promote) don't knock people down or judge them by how much they make, have or where they live. I'm blessed for what I have but I sure as shit don't go around snubbing it in people's faces nor do I want my friends to do it to me either. Take a step back this weekend digest this and really think about it. You CAN change this perception with future posts.

Dad?

Nope but thanks for proving my point...and I do have an 8 year old that has more class than you. I was hoping you'd READ and UNDERSTAND the words. I wasn't trying to personally attack you, just try to help you understand perception, I can see how it was received. I'm done, I guess I'll just figure out the ignore feature.

But Batman is like 48 man ... LOL .... he is a lost case :biggrin::biggrin:

11-13-2009: Yes, Danny. Me too. I've been looking in here on Prime since late 2003/early 2004, registered on Prime upon purchasing my 2004 NSX in March of 2005. Due to tens of X%X??$O*^#!!@@ posts by Batman over the past however many months, he is now the first subject in my Prime experience placed on my "ignore" capability. I will not miss his ramblings, nor his "u" and/or "ur", whatsoever.

To OP Stephen in Philly area, wish you success!

Tampa all the way! right in the middle of it all,, so much to do, and with an NSX you will get all the girls!! LOL

Hmm I'm going to pm some of you guys in the next couple days. Been busy with work so I haven't had anytime to research. I'm thinking Florida though since I've been there and like it. I actually went to a spot called Bonita Springs?? It was cool, just seemed like around there it's all old people.

Stephen

PS. Older people or retired people. Then again I went when I was 13 and 18.

yea Bonita Springs is for real Old retired Factory workers,, yikes not much to do there,, but if you want the 18-45 year olds,, then Tampa is the way to go,, Miami not so much everyone is moving outta Miami,, Orlando nope to much crime/ and tourist, not even fun,, anywhere else is retired or old Hicks/rednecks, Jacksonville is people from Atlanta Georgia with the chromed out rims and loud music, lowrider crap!! anywhere west of Jacksonville is starting to be redneck Heaven,, so do Tampa but dont listen to my Bias opinion I live in Tampa,,

For a young server wanting to be in an upscale establishment, concentrate on Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Boca/Delray Beach, Orlando, and Tampa. Most people from out of state don't realize that there are a lot prime resturants in these areas. I like the advice given to you before. Come down and spend a week at the any of the aforementioned areas.

Good luck.
