Looking to boost Hp

i have a stock 1991 5spd with 42k miles on it. runs great but i would like to boost the hp without jumping into any major upgrades (supercharger or nitrous oxide) just yet.

any suggections? please include estimated gain in hp (every little bit helps) as well as projected cost.

Sounds like you will be looking it the right place, per Litesokneecough. If the car is stock, headers and exhaust are where to start.

headers - $1500+ Comptech/Taitec/DCSports
Exhaust - you have to evaluate sounds for your taste $800-$2000

Expect about 20 RWPH +/-, enough to feel it in the "seat of the pants" dyno

That's fair to say.

Also, since you're starting from stock, you'll want to dyno the car before you make any changes to get a baseline for all your mods. My only dyno runs came after the headers and exhaust and, coonsequently, I don't have any hard numbers on what those upgrades did for the car. But like Larry says, my "seat of the pants dyno" says they're well worth it.

With the Comptech headers and exhaust my car dynos at 271 rwhp (stock chip).
