Posted in stereo, but wanted a bigger audience... really is a good deal.

Here's my chance to give back to the community that has helped me very much!

I have a friend that works for XM, he does coverage on their baseball channel. He turned me on to their friends and family program. He gets nothing from this and neither do I, it is merely a way for XM to get their equipment out there and gain subs...

Go to: http://www.xmradio.com/friends

It will prompt you for an email address. Type: [email protected]

Scroll down to terms/ conditions. You will have to click 'accept' on and then "Shop Now".

The deals range from FREE for an xm skyfi2 to $99.00 for any of the three portable units they sell. (I'd go for the Pioneer unit myself)

THE CATCH: you need to prepay for 3 months service beforehand (@ $12 a month) and keep it active for 6 months total. I really don't think that is much of a catch, as I pay for a year at a time anyway! My friend just got the Pioneer portable unit with car kit and home kit and three months service for $155. Seeing as the unit alone without the kits sell for $300, it's a good deal.

AGAIN, I have NO interest in this deal personally. I get nothing out of it except help Prime members get a deal. I checked with my buddy and he says there is nothing wrong with this. I am a government slave and have had many guys from my station take up on this offer... just throwing it out there.

If you have any questions, please PM me or respond to this thread. If this needs to be moved to the group buy/ dealer forum... no problem.

How long will this last? I think it would make a GREAT XMAS present for my whole family, but I gotta convince them first.

Sounds like a good deal for those that want portable XM.

Ask your friend if he's aware of the furor and ill will against XM that's been caused by DirecTV dropping Music Choice and forcing XM on their customers. It seems about half love the change and half hate it (I'm in the hate it camp). I've been communicating with DirecTV so I know they don't give a crap but I'm curious if XM is aware of the minor uproar.

So far, all the buzz I've heard has been good, but that is what I hear ON XM!
He's just a peon doing baseball reports so he's just happy more people may listen!

I received a free 30 day trial of XM via the net with my new Dell laptop. I also get XM feeds over DirecTV. I have to say, I personally wouldn't pay a cent for XM, there are one or two stations that interest me, but 80% of the time those two stations don't play anything I'd choose to listen to. You should try the free online trial before you plunk down some cash on a subscription.

I would love XM on DTV except for one thing - the constant interrputions between songs. I want interruption-free music and XM seems to have exactly ZERO channels featuring that. XM isn't commercial radio. I see no need for DJ chatter or promos for other XM channels. Shut up and play the next song already.

I'm reading (elsewhere) this morning that DTV is admitting lots of complaints about the switch and promissing to do something. It remains to be seen what that will be.

Yeah, I should be able to with my computer but it wont run that install program for some reason....I WANT MY XM!

My take is this: I have an hour and a half drive EACH way to work, I work in an area with ZERO terrestrial stations... gotta have one of the satellite radios. I stay with XM for 2 reasons: 1) Opie and Anthony. I like talk shows and they are funny and pull some sick stuff... not for the over-mature because it's potty humor. 2) Baseball. With 32 teams and 182 games each, during baseball season there is ALWAYS a game on.

Sirius does have better music stations that play better playlists... particularly the 80's station and the 'hair band' station. They also have football which is cool, but on 16 games a season. If it wasn't for baseball, I honestly might switch to Sirius... but not likely for the next 7 years!!!

Hope someone can take something out of this... and the quick DJ bits and promos take up about 2 minutes of airtime an hour. I don't think that's too bad.
