Long story short, a close friend of mine is currently involved in one of the worst divorces I have ever been witness to, and it has been going on for years already. A recent hearing has pushed him past the tipping point with his current attorney. Costs be damned, he's looking for the best representative out there now. If you know who this person is please feel free to send me a PM with some contact info and if you're willing to, please share your experiences.

In my last conversation with him, he used the words "I have nothing left to lose".... which is a scary proposition for ANY human being out there.

He helped settle my wife's uncle's terrible terrible divorce. He is sharp as a tack!

This is probably no help but since you invited people to speak from experience, let me assure you that lawyers rarely hold the answer as they often have instructions from their respective clients to escalate a challenging yet manageable situation into an epic battle that rips through people's lives, sometimes beyond repair. Worse still when kids are used as judicial pretexts for a despicable kind of emotional black mailing. I find it appaling that high courts and families in general allow these confrontations to happen and produce such carnage. In fact, a rightfully furious and indignant client is the perfect client for those few divorce lawyers who don't mind making a killing in complete disregard for the casualties that will inevitably and unnecessarily ensue. I'm not saying they're all like this, it always depends what they're asked to do and what advice they give.

To me, the best divorce lawyers promote peace and dignity rather than their expensive services. It's a tough proposition but potentially saves lives.

^^^^Well said!!

PRENUP!

Hope this advice saves the sale of a NSX one day to cover legal costs.

From what my lawyer told me. A Prenup in Canada deteriorates based on time and circumstances (children). 15 years and 2 kids later my wife is taking 1/2 irrelevant what my Prenup said before marriage.

Good luck to OP's friend.
