Looking for electrical plugs

Hello Prime,

Below is a picture of the trunk area, and the power plug that powers the LED spoiler. Does anyone know where I can get some of these plugs (marked GRN/WHT BLK)?
I am working on a project, and would rather use replacement plugs instead of splicing wires.

Sumitomo makes almost all of the shells and connectors for the NSX, www.sws.co.jp or www.sewsus.com

Request a catalog, find the shell+terminals, request a "sample" and they will send you a bag of 15 complete sets. www.sewsus.com

Back in 2001 I spoke with Brian who fields these type of requests. I was working with Bryan Zublin to get the smartantenna connectors so *I* didn't have to splice into my stock harness...

Now, I suspect you weren't looking for this exact type of information. However, since something 90% of all JP and a lot of [so called] American vehicles use Sumitomo connectors: you should be able to go to your local bone yard and pick up something that fits/functions at 100%.

Drew,

Thanks so much for this info. I have been wanting to source these for a while. I have a connector on my Fuel Pump Resistor that is broken in the harness. I hope I can get it, or I have to go looking for a wreck to get it out of.

Thanks again,
LarryB

I believe this is the same plug that goes up to the clamshell on the -T models. There's some funny plug that doesn't seem to go anywhere. Trace it back to where it enters the engine compartment, near the firewall and near the center of the car. It's not electrically active from what I can tell, and you end up with a male and female pair.

I cut them when I did my BBSC installed and bypassed the fuel resistor - it gives me the option to go back to a dual stage fuel system if I want just by swapping the shunt connector to the resistor. I did replace the wire with some heavy gauge wire, as the plugs I'm talking about had ~16AWG wire on them...

I emailed the company and asked where to buy their parts from. They said "ask the dealer". Has anyone had any luck buying specific connectors from the dealer? I would expect them only to sell complete assemblies. I'm wondering if the junkyard is the only place a person can legitimately get ahold of them.

Sure, you can buy all the connectors you want from them, but you have to buy them in quantites of 1,000 (or was it 10,000, I can't remember...at 9 cents a shell, and a couple of pennies for each connector it does add up quick.)

HINT
Maybe you need to request a [free] catalog, find the proper connectors+shells and request a [free] sample. If you follow these simple instructions you will get your connectors and you can share with others.
/HINT

The people who field these requests have no way to accept money (so you cannot buy anything from them), but they CAN send out catalogs and samples. People who work for large organizations know how this process works.

Otherwise their answer is essentially correct: you must buy it from the dealer, in the form of a complete wiring harness. The dealer/factory does NOT sell individual or bulk shells/connectors (which I'm guessing is your implied question). In fact, dealers have no idea who even made the connector or who Sumitomo is...you really don't think I got all this information by talking to the parts guy behind a counter somewhere??? You need to be incredibly dedicated and I don't think you like the idea of a "quest".

If you need help with all this, I have a catalog and can track down the part numbers. It really isn't that difficult.

Yep, they said quantities of 2000. I did request a catalog, but since I also mentioned I'm a person they didn't act interested in even sending one. Maybe I'll get it anyway. If I ever decide I really need some, I guess I'll try the sample method. I'm an engineer, I understand sampling. I'm really surprised they didn't even make an effort to say "one of our dealers is...." Most other connectors I'm aware of, I can order from companies like Digikey. I guess the automotive industry is a little more secretive, or something. Anyway, I was just sharing my attempt to get info from the company.

I don't think they have "dealers", I thought dealer meant like "your local Acura dealer".

They seem to sell directly to their customers and only deal in large quantities. The seem to package shells in the single thousands and connectors (the metal things inside the shells) in the tens of thousands.

So it is kinda like the 10 hot dogs and buying 6 buns at a time. Except you have 18,000 connectors left over that have no resale value.

I'm sure there is some NSXer that can phake being an interested company and getting enough samples for the small projects around here.

/I need a couple of connector sets for my SmartLock project, if anybody is going to go through all this trouble.

Yeah, we're on the same page. So did you not get some connectors already? I thought you already had. I had been thinking of looking for connectors if/when I ever got around to building a project, but figured I wouldn't be able to get them. Thanks for tracking down the company.

I was thinking of building a passive entry system, I wonder if that's similar to your "smartlock"?

Nice detailed drawing Sambel, where did you find that from ?

Cory,

I found a CD on E-bay (over 90 days, can't find the link). It is a complete PDF setup (like the 91-93 online). It has two sections. 95-96, and 97-2004.

I found the link. Search on ebay item number 7929541243.
