Hey Everyone,

Ok, so let me keep this short. Im a huge car nut, I mean HUGE. Im from NY, but I am currently working in London, and a guy at work just bought an 1992 NSX from Japan and is shipping it to London. His purchaser in Japan sent him a ton of pictures.

Now, Im a VW enthusiast (www.vwvortex.com) and I have an R32. If you showed me a picture of a R32 I could tell you everything that is right and wrong with it, what suspension set up it has, the whole 9 yards. I cant do that with this NSX (to an extent).

Hence, I am here to see if you guys can lend me a helping hand by analyzing these pictures with me to try to get names of bodykits, what is natural and aftermarket, etc....Im sure you get what Im saying by now  Ive been reading everything there is to know about NSXs for 2 days now.

From my research, I dont think that this is a stock color...or is it?

Here are the pics: Let the analysis begin! Thanks so much in advance!

It doesnt look like a stock colour to me but it could of course have been one of the rarecolours that was available only in Japan through the custom order plan perhaps, but then again looking in the engine bay it appears to me at least that this was a black car that is now repainted since inside of the engine bay at the back of the bulkhead is normally the same colour as the car (at least mine is) and the inside of the front around the lights is normally black but everything else is body colour for example the beam in front of the radiator (just went downstairs and checked and mine is red same as the body) unless of course the earlier cars were painted differenty but i dont recall my earlier 91 or 93 being different, also the roof is colour coded to the body which was not normal for the earlier cars. I would also be concerned that there is no NSX plate on the door sills, this is strange, there should be. The car interior looks very nice and clean which is also strange as the ivory interior is usually quite dirty after that many KM's, you can see the driver side carpet is dirty but the seats bolster is not worn (although hard to see as no picture of the drivers side with door open). It looks like it has wider fenders (wings) and probably spacers on the hubs to push the wheels out (which look like Type-S BBS wheels) - brakes are stock. Most of the parts on this car are available on www.gt-rom.net some look like taitec like the rear diffuser and some other actually looks like GTONE parts.

Other things I can see that the get you home spare tyre is missing but most likely cause of the new bonnet (hood). Do you have any guarantee that this car was not in some kind of accident in Japan because Japanese owners often do not go through such radical updates to the looks of the cars unless that it is the case, they prefer to be more subtle.

How much Yen did your friend pay for this, depending if it had been in accident or not it will vary greatly, if not I would say around 3 to 4 million, if it has then quite a lot less.

Just my opinon but dont like the center of the tail lights being painted body colour ! get the stock parts !

I bet that it sounds very nice with that exhaust system, wonder if it has headers on it ....

Good luck.

Thank you so much for that bit of info so far.

I think he paid about 2.1 million yen for it. As far as accidents are concerned, Im not aware of any, even though that info is not definetly right.

for 2.1 million yen = 9000 sterling, very very cheap - cant go wrong for that I would say!

Rear diffuser and exhaust is Taitec, rest of the bodykit including the hood and wing is Marga Hills.

But an automatic!? Come on!

Thanks for all that info on the body kit and hood!!!!

Ok so he actually paid 3 million yen for it.

Also here are two more pics. One issue remains: Is this a stock color? I looked at the color code chart that is under the "Buying NSX Guide" and I think its number 11 Phoneix Blue, which is custom (I think....)

The previous pictures that show the engine bay show that the body could have been black.
This pic shows the rear lid being completely blue both inside and out.

And here is with the driver side door opened:

who ever did the color change did a pretty damn good job. Very nice car but why an auto?

The color looks alot like my LBBP (Long Beach Blue Pearl) which I believe was only available from 02-05. But that also may just be because of the lighting. Most definitely looks like a repaint to me though.

Cup holder.

Kinda sketchy if those are cup holders...dont think id want any drinks pulling down on my ac vents...was gonna say some kind of fancy air freshener...but dunno...

The Japanese always come up with these in-car gadgets, I think this one is some kind of air freshener. Probably one of those fansier ones with air ionizer and freshener combo. This one could even have a little fan inside so when you turn on the climate control the air will propel the fan blades.

Looks like it was originally a black/ivory 91-93 to me.
Unknown repaint color
Tons of aftermarket body panels: hood, upper and lower front bumper, side skirts, wide front quarters, rear diffusor & spoiler(s)
Spacered type-s or bbs style rims w/o center caps (not stock as all s/szeros were stick)
No vin plates on the door sills
(washer?) fluid reservoir on the spare tire bracket is add-on
looks like tiatec exhaust
aftermarket (i's impact CF?) side vents & pedals
center tail light painted
needs floormats and gas

Rear diffuser and exhaust is Taitec

Yep. It's the JGTC center-exit, same as mine.

I'm a little bothered by the ill-fitting front fenders and bumper. Notice the larger front gap between the bumper and the right headlamp assembly. Also the huge gap between the fender and door on the same side. Either the kit is poorly made or whoever installed it didn't take time to gap it properly.

Good call on the front fender gaps. I didnt even reallt notice it. After researching the bodykit, it seems that it should be a quality kit and maybe the bolts that hold the fender on to the engine bay need to be loosened and adjusted.

As for the color, I think its a repaint but it still remains a mystery to me!

Thanks for all the feed back. This is like playing "Where's Waldo?" Hahah!

Aside from the stock rear quarter panels, stock headlights, and Taitec Diffusor that's the Marga Hills bodykit. Also on the vents are cup holders that fold out.

Im going make sure the importer in Japan is contacted about all this new info.

**Can someone post up a pic or pics of where the VIN plates would be on the door sills?**

Also, where on the car is the VIN placed? I know its usually posted under the hood, door sill, and windshield.....is that the same for the NSX?

Thanks!

VIN is at least 4 places on the car, usually.

1. front window
2. driver's door scuff plate
3. passenger door scuff plate
4. engine compartment (top, center, side facing the trunk)

2 & 3 are easily removable. They normally are during a side skirt intall. It looks like yours were not replaced after. Not sure why, but that does not make it anything sinister.
