OMG, I spelt Leen wrong! lol
Was looking for advice on finalizing the purchase of a 1972 Barracuda that is in Ontario and bringing it to Alberta.
Here, I would call my Lawyer Brother and he would run the VIN at the Personal Property Registry to see if anything is registered against the car.
He said each province is different and I should seek help.
Well the best place for that is our NSX community.

So if anyone can help me out with this car that started life built and delivered in the USA in 1972 and then was drug up to Canada about 15 years ago and a rotisserie done on her and driven on the road for the last 3 or 4 years.

I will also do a carfax just for the fun of it!
I don't have an account, but I think you can do a one at a time thing.

Should I post the VIN here?

Thanks
Trev

I see the car is ~1 hr or so away from me. Trev Run a www.carproof.com on it. Way better than carfax for Canadian Cars. Also the Ontario (UVIP) used vehicle information package can be purchased for $20 to check for various things including Liens. The seller can provide this as well, seeing how your out of province I also believe it can be purchased online.

& UVIP

"1. What is a Used Vehicle Information Package (UVIP)?

The Used Vehicle Information Package (UVIP) contains vehicle registration history in Ontario, including all present and previous owners in Ontario as well as the municipality of residence, vehicle lien information (if there are any liens registered on the vehicle), odometer reading on file (if available), the fair market value (Red Book) on which the minimum tax payable will apply and other information such as consumer tips, vehicle safety standards inspection, retail sales tax information and forms for bills of sale.

The private seller of a used motor vehicle is required to purchase a UVIP. For most transfers of vehicles between private sellers, a UVIP is mandatory. Unless the types of vehicle and transfer situations are exempt, the seller is required to supply the purchaser with this package at the time of sale. The purchaser must then present the UVIP to the Driver and Vehicle Licence Issuing Office when transferring the vehicle registration. For more information visit Ministry of Transportation website. Looks like I have to phone carproof tomorrow since the VIN is too old.
Carfax say I have my vin wrong and one of the reasons is because its before 1981.

Trev, I used to practice law in Ontario (now in Michigan) but Ontario is same as your jurisdiction -- PPSA regime as opposed to noting lien on Certificate of Title as is done in most of the USA. If you need a lawyer contact in Ontario I have a number of lawyers with whom I do business in Toronto and Windsor who I am sure would answer a question or two if needed and could probably pull a PPSA search for you without much cost. For sure the VIN No. needs to be correct and the name of the current owner is also another way to search for liens if I recall correctly under PPSA (caveat, its been quite a while since I worked in Ontario so this is to best of my knowledge/recollection). Good luck and feel free to PM me if you want.

Best,
Jeff
