I posted some pics of the unit. I replaced the bulbs with blue LED ones from www.superbrightleds.com. You will need 2 of these...

If you are simply replacing the bulbs, just note that going LED will likely change the color of the light since the original bulbs are an incandecent yellow and the orange filter was designed specificallyl for that color temperature.

So when you replaced them with the blue LED's did the entire spedo/tach section take on a blue hue? In other words, did it end up matching your blue CCU and clock? Did you need the blue filter or could you just stay with the blue LEDs? And how about night time visibility and reading of the gauges? Any adverse effects? I'm shooting for the all blue look too. Nice job BTW.

Hey Vega, Thanks for the kudos!

Using the blue LEDs behind the instrument cluster cancels out the orange filter but only allows very little light through. The blue LEDs from above is what really gives the cluster the blue color as it reflects off of the white lettering in front.

Since the LEDs all have the same blue (Roscolux Night Blue #74) it’s a perfect blue match to the CCU now. I had to match the CCU to the blue LEDs and since the speedo is using all LEDs, it’s a match. I still need to do a bit more testing, but I’m likely going to use a clear film with no painted pattern and Scotch tape to diffuse the blue rather than that blue painted filter I made. I need to compensate for the loss of light coming from the rear of the gauges by increasing the light from the top.

I still owe pics of the blue and hope to have some this weekend (Hopefully, if all goes well). The one thing to note that is sometimes frustrating is that LED bulbs are polarity sensitive. i.e. they won’t light up if the 12v and ground connections are not lined up right.

Once I’m 100% completed, I’ll put together a more comprehensive write-up incorporating D’ecosse and other posts on this top. Maybe I can get D’ecosse to add it to the FAQ section or something…

Are the Led a direct replacement to the stock bulbs or do I have to do some modification? Were do I buy the Gel Sheet?

I would simply get the direct bulb replacement rather than getting the socket and bulb together. The socket isn't a great fit so just use your OEM socket and pull the incandescent bulb out and put in a #74 LED bulb. That's it.

Go to a theatre lighting store that sells to the performing arts. You can also go to the Rosco website and found a dealer near you that sells the sheets.

#194 / 168

You will need 3 (I made the mistake of only ordering 2) behind, speedo, tach AND one in the center.

Listen, I had placed a large order with superbright but only purchased 2 #194 / 168 bulbs. If you are making a purchase, do you mind ordering 4 x #194 bulbs for me? The are the WLED-x5 bulbs which have LEDs on the sides as well as one large on in front. Superbright won't do a <$25 "out of US" order and I don't want to order bulbs I don't need. PM me.
