I've considered this in the past and even created a thread on it but I have since been observing most newer cars with LED's. Most have multiple led's for headlights. I'll assume it's because one single LED will not create the proper lighting as an HID, but this is mearly my guess. I'd love to see someone try it but I'm afraid it will be a disappointment.
I don't think the technology is mature yet for use in headlights. Price is higher than HIDs with less light output. Comparing these bulbs ($90) and lumens (1800 per bulb) vs a typical HID kit ($30) and lumens (3200 per bulb), they are half the effectiveness for triple the price. But if you compare with regular halogen bulbs, these LED bulbs produce the same (if not a bit more) light output.
