Switched from Dunlop Z1 Star Specs to Yomama AD08s. Even though they were an extra $300 because of the current $80 Dunlop rebate, I wanted to give them a try.

First day, I thought they sucked. But on day 2 and 3 they were much better as they started to wear. The one thing I noticed is they squeal much more so than the Dunlops which were almost silent even when pushing hard. Maybe as they wear it will dissipate. I do have to say that I wouldn't buy the AD08s again as the Dunlops are just as good at a considerable discount.

Day 1 - Struggling with new tires and 90 deg temps.

But learning has occured.

thanks for saving me $300

Dave, they aren't bad tires.... Granted, I only have one weekend on these, but my preliminary impression is they are about the same as the Z1s but more $. You know when you think you may be missing something, you have to try it out and find out you're not. I wish I had gotten another set of Nitto NT01s for the summer as they were actually cheaper than the AD08. Oh well, next time.

What size Nito's do you run? aren't you running factory 02 wheels? Are they really that much better on the track than SS Z1's? That's what I am running now. Billy does like the AD08 slightly better. It's just too pricey. I love the Z1.

205/40/17 & 255/40/17

You can run a 215/45/17 on the front, but it will rub on full lock. It is just a tad larger diameter than the 235/40/17.

Yes, they have noticeably more grip in the dry. But they SUCK in the wet and at least until the end of July, I'm down to one car (NSX) - thus the street tire choice.

A 205? wow... why not the 235 if the diameter on the 215/45 is less.

Is it crazy for me to think about running NT01's on street and track? I don't really drive in the rain. The Z1's are spectacular in the rain!

Maybe I will just stick with the Z1. You never know when you get a rainy track day. I've sat out before but I do learn a lot in the rain.

A 235/40 needs a 8" rim.

I use to run them on the street to/from the track and sometimes leave them on in between. But I don't DD the NSX and the tires are loud.... think knobby jeep tires. They hummmmmmm. It's not a big deal, but the hum is there.

It's a HPDE and the Z1 do just fine on the track. The Nitto is worth about 1-1/2 secs a lap on my home track. I'm already running down most the Porsches (sans GT3 & turbos with good drivers) at the PCA events that are running Hoosiers, so really it's a big hassle for me to run R-comps vs what I gain... ego of slightly faster times.

OK cool. I forgot you need a wider wheel. Good info to have. I'm surprised that tires with such little tread hum like that.

Ok: 205/40/17 & 255/40/17 AD08 on Stock wheels.

What's your:

F&R Camber:

Run standard 215/40/17 255/40/17 on the Ad08.
I was referring to the NT01 working on the 02 wheels with a 205/40/17 on the front.

camber -1.8/-2.8
toe 0.2/0.4
jrz rs 600/500
Dali 1" full stiff F / middle R
Stock wing

not true, I ran them on my 7.5 advan for years. you will be fine. i guess I did give up some ultimate grip but it couldn't be less grip than using 215. If you guys go to my youtube (type Slowv6) you can compare them side by side NT01 best lap compared to Z1. on that day I got 2 second diff. granted, the track is warmer when the NT01 goes back on the car. i ran 235/275 with nt01 and my Z1 is street/rain setup with 215/245.

the rear bar might be too stiff. I'm working on calculating the rates of various swaybars. E-mail me at [email protected] -I could use your help on a few measurements.

Your car is too loose when you push it on entry.

But the OEM 02+ wheel is a 7", so I don't think a 235 would work.

yes, I know... on day 2, I moved the rear sway to the soft position. I also bumped up the tire pressure from 36/36 to 36/38 and it seemed much happier.

I've driven them on the track and in the wet, and on a wet track, it wasn't terrible and definitely much much better than my 615s were. I haven't noticed them getting greasy at all, but I haven't had them out on an exceptionally hot track day yet.

People are always surprised that my car is on street tires after seeing the times out on the track, it's a great tire.

But they are one of the cheapest UHP options out there, and you can get them in stock 94-01 sizes. ;)

great autocross tire, but I have read that like the Falken 615 it tends to overheat and get greasy during long track sessions. Also, all the reviews say it's downright scary in the wet.

I've had the XS on the NSX as well as the older RT-615s.

The 615 are quiet throughout the life of the tires.

the XS starts quiet then sounds like a 4x4 mud slinger tire about halfway through.

The XS pulls harder lateral Gs than the Z1, RT, AD07.

XS sidewalls are on the softer side. Good for street comfort, but not as communicative as the other tires.

Your video to sound is off... Looks a little better but hard to correlate when sound is that far off.

Don't you also have the STMPO front/rear brace? The ration of 600/500 is a bit skewed towards the rear but I let Billy address those details

It is amazing indeed to see how much effect moving the rear Dali 1" sway bar by one hole can make a difference. I found out that a few years after the first session with the 1" sway bars.
